Sneezing budgie

My budgie has started doing something a little odd over the past few days. He will sneeze about 6 times in a row and then sit there and stretch his neck, looking like he's gagging. There is no discharge when he sneezes and he has been sneezing off and on during the day today. He does not seem to act sick and chirps happily like normal.
I did offer him a new food mix last week. (along with his normal seeds) Maybe he was allergic to something in that?
Anyone know what might cause this?

I've found with my conures, this time of year when the heater is on, they get dried out and will have sneezing attacks. I normally will turn on the humidifier when they start up. Not sure about the gagging though???

That could be part of it. I'll have to see about getting a humidifier. What kind do you use?

The sneezing doesn't sound that abnormal, but the other? :-/

Just might be a good idea to double check the food mix and see if it is dusty at all. I did a bit of a read on the neck streching thing and they supposedly do it to ease their breathing or to try and regurgitate. It could be the humidity, or it could be a respiratory problem from dust or the like. Maybe an allergy of some sort? I don't know...

the reason your budgie is gaging is because he is barfing up seeds like what mother budgies do to their babys it natrtal my budgies do it all the time. [image]

Hi, i have been searching the web for ages, but finally sum1 with the same problem, my budgie doe sthe same sneezes about 5 times then gags i thought it was my deoadrant, so i started spraying it in the hallway but he still continues help x

Some birds get into a habit of doing things as well, same as some humans crack their knuckles.
Birds are also prone to allergies just like humans so if where you have your bird gets alot of dust, try and find a less dusty position. Drafts? can also give a chill so again try to keep bird out of drafts.
Keep an eye on poops - budgies should be a solid poop brown/black on outside with white bit on the inside. Some slight variation of colour is normal as is them being a bit loose but it should not be an ongoing issue. Poop is usually a good indicator of birds health.

Is there a discharge coming from it's nostrils? Is it sitting fluffed up constantly not just sometimes? Is it sullen/withdrawn? Is it unusually aggressive/passive? Is it's poop runny and sticking to it's feathers? Has it stopped grooming itself? Is there a discharge coming out of it's beak? Is it vomiting seed and not re-eating it? Is it losing weight despite a good apetite? It it's breastbone sticking out to the point you can see it without having to touch it? If you answered yes to any of the questions just asked, there could be a very serious health problem with your bird and you must without delay get it to an avian vet (if possible) or at the least a regular vet who is good with birds.
