Howdie well, i caught 3 birds from the aviary last night to go to the vet today at 430. Sylvester, Tweety & Duey. What I started thinking was scaley face on tweety & her daughter duey, i now think is a hormonal thing. it is only affecting my older gals, so it cant be mites. i brought along sylvester for 2 reasons... 1, he would go crazy without his love & 2, they can see the boys are fine. i hope it goes well, and it is easily treated. i dont have a clue how i am going to "treat" all the girls in the aviary???

ok, im back and the news is great! no mites! she wants me to get them off seed, so the converting begins! As for the hormonal levels, she wants them back after 2 weeks of being (fingers crossed) on the pellets. Her parnter will be back from vacation then, and she will have a look too. She said the were all in great health, and was amaized with their colors. Sylvester was fantastic, his leg color perfect! They tried to scrap the cere and nothing came off, being good. We will play the wait and see game for now, and will do blood work in 2 weeks if need be. So I feel good for now. all 3 were very happy to be back in the aviary! I'll keep you posted in 2 weeks
ps. look for my other post

Daisy (not one of the ones that went to the vet) had the same thing. Her cere was scabby looking. Over the weekend she has scrapped it all off!!! WEIRD

Buuz it's like a snake shedding it's skin and it happens to the females as they mature. The cere will return to chocolate brown when they are ready to go down, so it is no problem but it is good to get a professional opinion and to make sure there are no "nasties" present. Sometimes it happens to the males when they are no longer fertile and they look like the are turning female, so these ones you keep as pets and let them live out their old age spoilt. THATS WHAT MALES (HUMAN] LIKE TO DO Avril from Oz
