Hi! I am new to this forum and interested in buying a budgie.
I live in Canada and although I know pet stores sell budgies I would prefer to buy from a breeder.
I have searched around and found one breeder in my province. I phoned him and apparently he doesn't hand tame his budgies but he told me budgies are one of the easiest parrots to hand tame. He said he sells the budgies when they are 7-8 weeks old and that is the best time to start taming them.
I plan on buying some books or checking out info on here.
Does the info he provided sound about right?
I got this breeders number from my neighbour. She doesn't have budgies but her friend knows this person.

Hi there, and welcome to BC
Even though budgies are easy to tame I think for your first bird your better off finding a breeder who hand tames or hand feed's there babies so the baby is tame once it arrives at your house. There may be a breeder on this site who is near you.l

Hi and welcome!
Good for you for checking everything out ahead of time! I personally have never had tame adult budgies, but I get the bubs ready. I breed them, and then handle and pre-tame/finger train them. If they are handled like that, then they are really easy to tame even if they aren't hand fed, so I would also ask the breeder if he handles the bubs. If he does get them used to humans then great, you should be fine. If he doesn't, and you want to start off easily, then I would probably look into finding someone else who does. I personally can't help you, since I live in the US.
On the other hand, if you can't find anyone who hand tames the budgies, there are a lot of people on here who have had tamed theirs, and they can probably give you tips. 7-8 weeks sounds about right age-wise, though. Good luck!

Hiya Shelley,
that does sound the right age for them to leave their mums.
they are very easy to tame, the do say boys talk easier but my parents had an hen that talked although she was a biter. I think with plenty of time and patience you could tame one no problem. Good luck with your hunt. Another thought, do you have an avian news magazine over there over here we have one and in that they advertise things like shows and also breeders names, or maybe yell.com or similar may find you something.
