Never. A budgie will bath itself - usually in it's water bowl which makes it essential to clean and change the water daily, more often when it is hot. Oh... That's news to me.... What if you water dish has a top on it that wont allow it to get in easily? as Karen said if they want to get in the wriggle and squash their way in, here is a picture of Albert (one of my first chicks) doing ab it of seed pot mining, in a food dish not water though almost there a bit further and in totally

I think the 2 perches is sufficient - want to encourage it to fly from perch to perch. I'd take one of them out and put a natural branch in there instead. The roughness of a natural branch as well as the varying width will also help exercise the birds feet.

It's rough just like a branch. it's specifically made for nail trimming. It also has a rope that the bird can chew on. Would this type of toy be good for a budgie?

You're talking about this type of thing, right? I've had these before, and yes, I say they are good, but you should have a natural branch as the main perch. I'd choose a small short one of these if you want to use it and have it as an extra, and not as a main perch. Don't use it as a substitute for cuttlebone, either though, the budgie should always have cuttlebone to gnaw on. You may want to just go with the regular and natural perch, and the other basics to start with. You don't really want to overload your new budgie!

Depends on how crowded the cage is, etc. Don't ever make it so there isnt any room for the budgie to move around. I'd say at least two all the time, more if they are little ones, but there are probably different opinions on that.
Something a lot of people do is they have a bunch of different toys, and they switch them around on a regular basis so the birds don't get tired of the same toy for months on end.

I'll probably start out with 4 toys and have 3 in the cage at a time. I'll gradually (hope I spelled that right) get more toys the longer I have the bird.
Anyone else have an opinion on how many toys to keep in the cage at all times?

I have 2 hanging toys & 2 little plastic balls on the bottom of the cage.

Thanks again for all the help.
How often should I clean the cage?

If you line the tray with paper - put a few layers in each time - take out a sheet of paper daily. Once a week, wash the entire cage with disinfectant in warm water. Scrub the perches. Your cleaning kit should contain: 1 bucket, 1 bottle disinfectant, 2 brushes - a medium/heavy duty brush plus an old toothbrush (for small area's), 2 teatowells for drying cage if it can't be sun dried.

Thanks for the idea. I think i'll use that idea.
If you use newspaper do you still need bedding?

Nope. You don't usually use bedding (as in the pine shavings type of bedding) for budgies anyway.

Thanks. I already bought some bedding so i'll use the bedding until it's out and then use newspaper.
Amazingly, I don't have any more questions.

I have another question.
I heard from someone you need to give parakeets non-chlorinated water. Is this true?
