Hi, is this the right board for health question. My cocketiel has had a beak problem, I got advice from you before, thanks, but the vet trimmed his beak about 3 weeks ago and it is growing so fast . It doesn't look right, hard to describe, but there is a thinner beak growing from the the inside of the full beak. that fuller beak has stopped growing.Sorry can't explain, just wondered if anyone had an idea of what I'm talking about, would you have any advice. i know he doesn't eat enough veg, i am trying thanks, hidecote

Hi, I moved your post to here to get the coverage you might need from our tiel experts I know exactly what you mean, i had the same trouble with one of my kaks. First off, best thing to do is take him back to the vets to get it re-trimmed, but once that is done there is a couple of tips to keep it in "shape" try to give him lots of harder toys to nibble, this will help him keep it under control by himself. a cuttlefish could be a good addition to the cage (but you may already have one) and some of those hard honey bar treats would give the beak more of a work out while eating too. carry on trying with the fruit and veg - i know they can be stubborn and refuse to even look at it let alone touch it, but eventually curiosity will get the better of him and he will try it. You could always add some vitamin drops in his water till he eats a varied diet? Are you in the UK? cos if you are, you could always chop a sprig/branch off a hawthorn or pyracantha bush and pop that in the cage (with berries on) as he will enjoy the berries AND chew on the wood. But you do have to make sure that the bush hasnt been treated with anything hope this helps, but im sure others will have some advice too
