OK its a bit of a tale but here goes Remember when Bernie (then Baby Fluff) landed in my tea? Well, we made a trip to the vets at the time and I was told not to worry it all looks fine, keep applying aloe vera to soothe it. On Wednesday, he started holding his left leg up and not using it at all, so back to the vets where, the vet told me that it's because the scalded skin is healing and has got a bit tight and is probably sore (I have been applying aloe vera twice a day since the incident). He was given an antibiotic injection -because with all this applying aloe to his leg, he doesn't much like being handled right now and I couldn't guarantee I could get the exact required dose into his mouth, and it was more precautionary anyway. Anyway, he is still holding up his leg and not walking on it but since Thursday night Puku has stopped flying and coming out her cage. She is eating, drinking, preening and stuff, her poos look normal and she can fly just won't. I have made an appointment at the vets but they didn't have one for any earlier than Monday! I was wondering if anyone thinks (and I realise this might sound ridiculous but..) that it might be in sympathy for Bernie (who she loves even more than her coconut and broccolli put together) as since he started holding his leg up he hasn't been particularly active either but does come out and fly around. Any clues anyone?

Gee Orange, I don't know. When I read the first part of your post, I thought it might be scar tissue? I don't recall you saying that the leg was actually damaged?

It was scalded but just not too badly, which is why I kept putting the aloe on. My concern was for Puku though, Bernie is fine, his leg will get better and this morning he has started using it again a bit, but Puku is not coming out and I am really quite worried about her. She is eating and drinking, preening and bathing just not wanting to come out for a fly around and less active inside her cage than she usually is! I was wondering if anyone had heard of the birds mate being quiet when the other one has hurt itself? I will just have to see how she goes over the weekend.

Think back to the last time he was out - did anything scare him? Hurt him? Have you moved the cage, or any furniture? Changed the colour of something? All these things could affect him

Ah ok Lin thanks... I didn't even think of that, they are usually so bold! Actually, when she was out on Thursday afternoon she did get shut in the porch when the dog closed it (while getting her ball out from behind it) Puku was probably only in there for a few mins until I realised that she had been in there when the door closed and when I went to let her out she flew straight out but had left behind a feather... it looked like a wing one. I don't know how she lost it, maybe that could explain it?!

If everything else is well, then I think that's highly likely to be it! Give him a bit of time, and I'm sure he'll be back into trouble!

You couldn't have been more right Lin!!! Today she came out for a decent length of time, not as long as normal but she had a bit of a fly around, ate with the others and went exploring in a drawer. I am soooo relieved!! Silly birds they do worry me sometimes.... quite often actually!! Oh and Bernie is using his leg about 80% of the time now too so I am one happy birdy mummy!!
Thanks Lin : )
