Hi Mark, Kakariki are a very independent bird. Rikki will come to you when she is ready - that's the thing with kaks, they make the moves. Give her time & have patience and she will be a wonderful part of your family. Some of the members with kaks will be able to give you some wonderful tips on interacting with your girl and what games are good to play with her.

Hi and welcome to the board sorry for the delay ive not been well. Kaks are as Karen said very independent, but they are also very trusting. Easiest way to get them to see you as a friend is to give them a lot of flying time and sit on the floor (as they love the floor also) with a bowl of berries in front of you. I dont know a kak that can resist berries lol and eventually they will come have a nibble, when she does try not to reach out to her as she will spook easily. Do this for a few days and then move the bowl to your lap - you will have her jumping all over you in no time! Kaks are easier to tame than budgies as their trusting nature is far greater, but they are not the type of bird to sit on your shoulder for hours on end, they are VERY active and great fun to watch and play with good luck with her, hope to see some pictures soon Sal.
