On the Kakariki forum I was told to separate these 2 into a small cage so that they cannot get away from each other so that they will bond. I moved them on Friday & they haven't been happy since! I was told tonight that it could take months! This is the cage they are stuck in until "magic" happens - it's a budgie cage. The boy still loves me though. The girl only cares that I feed her. Aren't they beautiful?

they are gorgeous!! i love the cinnamons, we dont get them here very often. kaks are usually very sociable, both to each other as well as people, im sure it wont take as long as months - i would guess a week or so. seems a strange thing for the kak site to recommend though, they need space to help them feel comfortable and "at home" to encourage them to pair up. in my experience, they dont bond and breed in a confined space but its a specialised site so they must know their stuff, maybe ive just had fussy birds

It's not for them to breed in - although that probably won't stop em! I've got a small aviary to put them in until they bond up. The reason they recommended me putting them in a small cage was none of the birds liked each other & ran away to be by themselves. I've got another pair holed up in another cage hoping they like each other. So far so good - they both hide from me in the same place (behind a gum tree branch). Still got to find a mate for the yellow crown hen though.
I am going to a bird show next Sunday so I'm hoping for some luck there.

oooh how exciting!! if there is a spare yellow crown there send one my way there is one extra bonus to having them in the smaller cage to bond, the girl might start to like you, especially if she sees the boy giving you attention close up

LOL! That is one of the few times they have both been on the perch at the same time!
I hope the girl decides to likes me, it's a bit boring just having the boy trying to take my finger off . . .

I don't know if your birds are the same Karen, but if i move mine or handle them they seem to sulk for about a week after...
I f there doing the same, give them a couple of weeks and they'll soon start taking notice of each other..
What i noticed with my mum's pair is the female seems to do all the initiating, trying to edge closer and closer. You'll know if she likes him but the head down, bum up stance and the funny noise she makes to entice him...
