I bought little Sugar in today, Lennie has had to give up his cage. Any ideas? all the others seem very well, i even found two budgie eggs today. my goodness they are tiny Sugar looks well, eating well. Moving around the cage, and even in the scratch box, finding Lennies goodies. she has a slight drunkeness while moving around. Although she is flying its not normal. She cocks her head to one side, like she is going to fall asleep, but doe'nt. I have looked around the avairy, for anything that should not be there, but nothing crops up. She acts like she has brain damage basicially, maybe shes had a hard knock, but how? I have never wormed her, could this cause a problem such as these funny movements. I have wormer indoors, but unless this could be the cause, i dont want to at the moment. A vitamin/mineral problem? I love this little bird, and if shes showing no signs of improvement tommorow..im off to the vets.

could be a inner ear problem but a trip to the vet is your best bet. Also a slight stroke hence the drunkardness appearance, just keep her safe and quiet and then off the the vet. Hope she gets better. Hugs and Kisses Sugar. Just thought she is not the one laying and could possible be egg bound even though it is not visible yet, My Pumpkin was very groggy when I noticed her and she was egg bound. Love Avril

I've heard of this problem with female Kakariki. I don't think even the people on the Kakariki forum know what this ailment is. Ask on there, hopefully someone has come up with something. Good luck.

I gave her till 1pm yesterday, and she started to show some improvement, by 4pm she was out with me, cuddled up in my jumper for a while, and looking much better, so i left going to the vets. Today she has been doing her 'thing' exploring..lol, but i need to give her lost of rest, as i dont want another Graham .I will keep her inside for a while now, as i dont want her catching any sort of chill. Poor Spicey spent all day calling his little loved one yesterday, but hes calmed down alot today. shes flying better, but not nearly enough. Eating very well, and starting to really move aorund the cage. Her head still can have that side look sometimes, and but certainly not as bad as it was as first, or as much. Lennies back inside as Spice was picking on him, so i had to divide my cage. The funny thing is, Lennie is on the top bunk, and he has learned if he pulls up the newspaper on the wire i put in, he can see Sugar..smarty pants! all in all My little Sug seems on the mend.

im so sorry i didnt see this earlier Donna, i could have helped put your mind at rest She acted the same after flying into our wall a few days after we bought her home, she had a "drunken" sulk that lasted a few days and all of a sudden was back to her old self. It sounds like she has done the same thing again with what you described, she may have just had a flying trauma in the aviary and enjoying the pampering while she gets over it

so you taught her to crash land eh! it looks like she had a bump or something. Its lovely having her indoors again. She is such a sweetie, Mr Scully warms to her too, and often picks her up.

Just thought i would give you an update. There was a moment for Sugars sake i almost thought about having her PTS. Slowly..slowly ..she is making a recovery. Shes always been eating very well, and that was the reason i did not want to give up on her. She is really enjoying her baths again, (getting soaked as she does) much much brighter than she was. Enjoys the gym, and this cocked head thing is very slowly getting better. Sugar is very active and perky, but cannot fly properly yet, even though she is trying.
Sadly ..and it was my own fault, i have lost her mate Spice out of my avairy. I was cleaning out, and he escaped. He was a handsome bird, and these two were a very bonded pair, so its very sad for them. He hung around for quite a time, and i almost get him back..but i cannot leave Sugar outside, so i have put Lennie in the aviary at the moment. With an open cage near, but i dont hold out much hope. Lennie has to come back in, as hes not used to the cold weather, and may get a chill. Its going to snow here, so he comes back in today.
its a bit sad in the Scully birdie household at the mo

Sugars comming along in heaps..although still not flying, shes back to her little antics, and getting into everywhere. Climbs up to the top of the curtains Shouting to be let out in the mornings, or she could be shouting for Spice of course. still got the little cocked head thing, but even thats geting less and less.

That's great news, maybe it took a while not just to recover but to get her confidence back too. Bless her, you'll have to buy her a crash hat to keep her safe.
Hugs, glad she's doing so much better. Sorry this is late only just found the post.
