Hi Scully So far still just the two chicks, but (fingers crossed, hug a horse-shoe & touch wood!) they seem to be doing really well. There are 3 more eggs in the nest, but as I had to seperate them for a few days I doubt that those are fertile. How long do you think I should leave it before I remove those eggs, or should I just leave them where they are? I would hate to take out a fertile egg, but if anything hatches now it probably won't have much of a chance as the other chicks are already a week old. What do you think?

hmm a week is quite alot, most of my eggs were laid every two days. I have 3 chicks this morning. Dont forget its my first time too but i guess it wont hurt to give them a few more days. Like you said, it would be sad to removed a fertile egg. 3 healthy chicks is great

Hi Can anyone advise me?? I took 2 kaks from Battybirdie, thought to be girls. Rio is adoreable and I thought babygirl. Dipsy[renamed 'cos of her/his behaviour] who's lots bigger has took to laying eggs! First 2 i took away on Ellens advice, next one i bioled and put back[felt bad doing that], but next day there was another then she went 3days and laid another and i did'nt know what i should do 'cos forgot which one was boiled, then expected one today but she laid one lastnite so now got 4!!!!! I'm really worried 'cos thought they were both girls and i know nothing of breeding. There not even in a box, she laid them in the cat tray that they scrabble for food in!!!!! Poor Rio keeps going for food and finding eggs [seems to try to play footie with them!] once she realises there not edible she/he goes again. At first Dipsy did'nt really take much notice of eggs but now there's more she's on them all the time. Any advice would be so very gretaly recieved as i'm paniking like mad. Thanks Amanda[tiggernut] x #shocked#

I'd just keep chucking the eggs. If they are brother & sister you definately don't want them to breed! I'd also remove the tray as she see's it as her nest box.

Thanks Karen. Won't it stress her if i take all eggs out now? She's sitting on them all the time and she is'nt happy when i clean the cage out. Rio loves that tray to scrabble for food so do i buy a new one or get something else for him/her? I feel really bad and mean, i don't want to hurt her mental state!! Amanda xx

She'll get over any upset - birds are resilient. Make sure you give plenty of toys to take her mind off it. I wouldn't get a new tray either. Get one of those ball toy things that you can put treats into for them to have fun with.

Hi Amanda
my two are always 'at it' and sadly i have to chuck the egss away.
My Kaks both like play tunnels, either the plastic kind or the canvas. A box with holes to play in doesnt last but keeps them amused for a while. its just finding things for them to do. wrap some monkey nuts like sweets in paper, they then have two things to do before the nut.
my Sugar is none the worse for taking her eggs away. i think it upsets me more than her

Hi I would also like some help on breading kaks if somebody would like to help me? I have 2 pairs of kaks in my aviary, I have had my pair of green kaks (pair 1) for 4 weeks, Whilst i was finishing the aviary i had these in a cage in my summer house, The hen started dropping eggs on the floor of the cage, I added a nest box to the cage to see what would happen, She went in and out of the nest box and lay-ed an egg, The egg had been lay-ed for 3 days and this is when i had finished the aviary, I moved the kaks into the aviary and mounted the nest box on the back wall, she had carried on going in and out of the box, Once i had finished the aviary my wife and children bought me a pair of Latino kaks (pair 2), all seamed OK for about a week, the 2 cock birds had a bit of a fight to sort out rank, once i had added a second pair i thought best to add another box but then the green hen started going into box 2, Do i move the 1 and only egg from box 1 and move into box 2 if she lays in there? How long will it be before i start to see anything happening with the egg? Any advice is much appreciated, Many Thanks Nick.
