Our Mia and Tovi have had eggs she laid them about 3 weeks ago ish and is almost always sat on them. when she does rarely leave the box we have a look at them from a distance we have no idea if they are fertile or not. Over the last few days we have noticed 3 of the eggs seem darker now than they did does this mean there is likely to be something in them?

Hi i'm not to sure about the average incubation period for kaks, but I assume 21 days is abour right. So at 3 weeks, you should be hearing some noises from inside the eggs? Or pip marks? Dark eggs? Hmmm, may not be good, the eggs should like nice and white, with a pinkish glow.

Incubation for Kakariki is 19-21 days but they have been known to hatch afte 25 days. I would wait for a full 35 days before deciding to remove the eggs if they haven't hatched as it's likely they will immediately start breeding again.

It could have latched on to her feathers and falled out when she left the box. Putting it back in is good as she'll look after it. It one is dead just take it out, Mia will still look after any others. Can't leave it in there as it could create disease.

Its been 8 days since fluff (as its been nicknamed) hatched and is doing fine.Cant imagine any more eggs hatching now, they are turning a dark colour so we have decided to remove them next time mia is out of the nestbox. One surviver is better than none, one more kak to get upto no good lol .
