I don't know how or why but Bertie has just died. He was fine this morning, I went upstairs for a bath and when I came back down, he was gone. I only had him for a week but he was a lovely bird. I am so upset even though I only had him a short time, poor Bertie,

He must have had some sort of illness from the pet shop.... I am so glad that I was sensible enough to quarantine him from the others this time! Going to keep a really close eye on P&O just in case!

I think he must have - maybe he really was lethargic, and I put it down to the difference between tiels and Kaks! Oops, sorry, poor little guy. Still, at least he knew love, and for some birds that is never known

Maybe Bertie died from stressing out too much and stressing out can kill birds.
I think reason Bertie died is because was getting transported to the pet shop then, going to your house stressed him out way too much and he just died.
When I buy a new bird I always keep the bird away from my other birds for 3 weeks - 1 month. So I was a good thing you kept him away from your other birds because you never know. Cause' I maybe totally wrong about the stressing out thing but, You never know.
Did he poo alot? And how old was the bird?

I don't think he died from stress Birdsforlife, he had been here for 6 days, if he was going to die from stress it would have been earlier, plus he was settling in nicely, singing away, preening etc.
He didn't poo a huge amount, about as much as I would expect from bird his size and I have no idea how old he was, my mum didn't think to ask when she bought him but he was an adult bird.

OMG Dawn what a terrible thing to happen - I'm so sorry . I know he was only with you for a short while, but they make an impact on you so quickly (especially soft touches like you and I!) Definitely worth a trip back to the pet shop I should think, as there may be an underlying disease in their stock affecting a number of birds. If you are able to help to save another birdie then Berties passing won't seem so senseless. Hugs to you from the whole of the Batty clan.

Aww im so sorry to hear this Dawn, big big hugs to you. Did the petshop give you a guarantee? i know places like pets at home do, so you can it back, I agree with battiebirdie, you should definately go back and inform the petshop incase all their stock is affected (i know they are usually good at quarantining there though, if its pets at home)

Thank you for your support guys. It was soo sad! You are right Ellen even though he was only here a while he had made an impact on me, and I have to admit (a bit sheepishly) that I was a bit tearful when we buried him, silly I know but I am a real soft touch and I was looking forward to having him for years and years!
I have phoned the pet shop to let them know, they told me that 2 of there other tiels have died and they have now all been taken off sale and will be seeing their vet. They told me that once they have sorted it all out I could have a replacement bird but to be honest I am a bit put off and would be distraught if it happened again. They didn't offer me a refund but I probably would have got one if I had asked, although my mum paid so she would have got it back.
Tomorrow I have a tiel breeder bringing over all his baby hand reared birds while he is in the area for me to have a look at to see if I take a fancy to any of them. They are already stepping up on command so I am quite pleased about that. Still, it doesn't replace Bertie who will always be my first tiel.

Sad as it is, it is good to know that YOU didn't do anything wrong. Let us know which tiel you pick #cheesy# Once you have one tame tiel, you will be an absolute convert to the tiel personality #cheesy#
