OMG - I just can't believe that this has happened, but today two of my precious angels have died Cybil - my budgie, and Betty - my cockatiel both died during the night They were happy & healthy last night and were out flying between 8pm & 1am (little minxes!), and when I got up this morning both of the girls were lying dead on the bottom of the aviary Bertie (tiel) is absolutely devasated - they were both his ladies All of the other birds look fine at the moment, but I rushed all of them and my two dead babies straight to the avian vets. Betty & Cybil were going to be having autopsies this afternoon, so I can only wait to hear the results of those. The vet said that all of my birds are in superb condition, and we have ruled out all of the ususal things such as house plants, sprays, paint, lead bars etc etc. At the moment the vet suspects a bacterial infection (starts with Y but I can't remember the name - it's apparently a strain of TB), which she said can even come in via the water supply if you are really unlucky. She has also taken poo swabs from all of my other babies & these are going to be analised as well. All of my angels are now on antibiotics & I will be keeping a really close eye on them. Please send positive thoughts our way guys - I just don't know what I'll do if anything else happens

Hi Guys - I'm really sorry I don't get on line much at the moment (the curse of a broken computer!!). I just wanted to update you on the birdies - I got the autopsy results back on Betty & Cybil, and the only thing that the vet could find was that Betty had a large area of bruising on the back of her head. They can only assume that something scared her in the night and that she bashed into something causing poor Cybil to have a heart attack at the same time. It's so frustrating as they have a night light (40w) on all the time, but Betty was naturally very clumsy & I was constantly worried that she would hurt herself. All of the others have been absolutely fine with not even a grotty botty between them - thank goodness! I also plucked up the courage to replace my angels, and we now have two new members of the Batty flock. Jinty is the new budgie-love of Mr Tickles (& boy does he luuuurrrvveee her ). She is a lovely Olive green colour with a yellowish head, and is a bit of a bossy tart too! Gertie is going to be Berties new tiel lady, and she is a really pretty little lutino girlie. Gertie is a little psychotic though, so she is currently living with her Grandma & being hand-trained! She's doing really well, and once you get her on your hand, she will now stay there, although getting her there is another story altogether. Nevertheless it's quite a transformation from how she was as she would clatter wildly around her cage if you so much as walked into the room when we first got her. My biggest problem is that Bertie is just such a prawn when he has company, that I just can't have another fruit-loop in the house He's fine with Fred & George and follows their good example , but if someone else loses the plot, then Bertie is just hopeless. He's always last into the cage at night anyway as his poor little grey cells just can't cope with going in when someone else is still out having fun As soon as they are in though he just can't wait to follow I promise to get some pics posted for you when I have my computer back on line, although I'm not too sure when that will be - probably after Xmas as funds are a little snug at the moment (courtesty of all my vets bills - lol!)

Congrats on the newbies Ellen. Thankfully the vet autopsy results didn't show a disease. I've experienced that and it is awful.
