Hello,
I just wanted to stop by and introduce myself to the forum. I'm a new mom to a Meyer's parrot i aquired recently, i am currently living in west virginia, and almost done with college. My Meyer's is named Romeo and he has no toes on one foot. So ,i consider him a special needs bird. He was hatched in november. Also, me and him are working hard together to train him to learn basic birdie manners. Anyways hope to hear from you all soon !

hey, Yeah that is very strange! I read that Meyers parrots do not breed very well in captivity, and thats the reason why they are so rare and hard to find. The breeder told me that the toes were cut off as he was kicking his way out of the egg, but i dont know i thought birds pecked their way out. I dont know how it happened honestly, but it dosnt slow him down in the least bit.

Hey, Yeah i know they are very tough! I thought it was going to be a big problem, but you would never know that he is special needs bird. I dont treat him as if hes handicaped. I been reading books about training and stuff, and im letting his wings grow out so he has full flight, im going to start flight training him soon when they grow out. Training him to come to me on command, to fly away from me on to a perch on command etc. He has beaky behavior when i hold him which im trying to figure out how to stop that, he likes to chew on fingers but it is starting to hurt, so im reading up on how to discourage that sort of behavior. I have a parakeet as well, shes not mine, but my mothers and i worked with her a couple months but she dosnt seem to like human contact much. I have never had good luck with parakeets, and today she bit me soooo hard on my lip. When i have her out she always flys back to her cage and freaks out everytime i try to take her out again, so im not sure. Maybe some birds just arent meant to be companions? Also, i cant figure out how to upload photos for you all to see! sarah

If you already have the pictures saved on your computer, then you do it easily when you are posting. When you are typing in a post, on the left (right next to the text box) there is a little box that says "Download ImageShack Toolbar!" above it. Click the "Browse" button. It should bring up your pictures on your computer. Open the picture you want, then click "host it!". An Imageshack window will come up and show a bunch of codes. Find one that says "Hotlink for Forums" and copy and paste that code into your post. If you do it right, your picture will show up in your post. Hope that helps you, I'm afraid I can't help with the taming, my budgies are wild in an outdoor aviary. Sorry, I'm sure someone else will have some suggestions!
