Hi everyone! I actually don't own any birds, but I have some fish. I'm looking to make the jump from water to air very soon!! Maybe someone can help me choose my first flying feathered friend?

Hey there fn! Pete here. I'm from canada as well. If you have any quesrtions dont hesitate I been working at a pet shop pretty much all my life and now I own one lol! Taking care of birds is a wonderful experience and much more fun and intercative than owning fish (nbo offence to you fish lovers out there!)
Anyhoo, welcome to the boards (even tho I'm new as well haha)

Thanks for the warm welcome! As a newbie to the bird world it's nice to know that there are people who will take me under their "wing"! (Sorry! Couldn't resist!)

Hi and welcome aboard. Tiels are a good way to go for your first bird. Cockatiels that is lol. They have a nice nature, bueatiful singing voice and can be very tame plus they dont make alot of mess.

Sounds good to me! I would prefer a low maintenance bird first time around. I'll have to make some trips to the pet store and see what they have available, cost, accessories, etc. Thanks again!!

I don't think there is such a thing as a low maintance bird I'm from the Fraser Valley in Canada and I'm also new but birds require at least an hour or two of one on one interation if you want him to be friendly and tame. They are more than just a pet they become your best friend or if your like me they become like children they are very intellegent some have the intelegence of a 6 year old child and the emotions of a 2 yr old they are not low maitenance I'm not trying to discourage you just letting you know what your getting into Pat

I have two tiels. they are fantastic with the kids. Actually the kids are the ones who have tamed these guys, as they get them out of the cage more then I do. Not sure on the pricing of tiels in canada but they range from a handreared one to about 90 aus dollars. For an untame one you are looking at around 40 aus dollars.
