Just thought I'd put a little post about Ivy's beak up. It still looks a bit stupid but I think it's growing back ok now, but the top of her beak is growing very very slowly, whereas the bottom goes crazy and needs regular trims. She's been to the vets for a trim a couple of times and I was very brave and did it myself yesterday She didn't bite me so I must of done ok! Lol!
Here's some pictures of her proving her beak works...
She does seem much happier. She plays more too. And she's obviously not struggling with her beak so much as she's getting a bit podgy (but that may be from all the crackers I keep feeding her, lol!). I'm still having major problems with her squalking though. I finished work at 6pm today, mum had put her out in the garden in the sunshine and I could hear her squalking as soon as I got out of the car. She's still screaming her head off now (it's nearly 7.30pm now). She can squalk continuosly for hours. I don't mean chattery bird noise, I mean full on high pitched awfulness! I've tried everything but I just can't get her to stop. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd really appreciate them as I think my Dad's about to kill her (he wouldn't really - he just likes to complain!).
So anyway, apart from that, we're doing ok. Oh, I forgot to say, she's not so scared of people anymore either. It takes her a while to pluck up the courage to come and say hello, but once she's on my shoulder, I can't get her off! She's also learnt how to undo necklaces and she'll fly off with them! Theif!! #cheesy#
You can adjust your timezone by going into your Profile and scrolling down to Dates and Times and adjust your time via the dropdown menu. Don't forget to save! Maybe try giving Ivy some more foot toys and shredding toys? Or even roll into a ball some newspaper that she can shred. I don't know how to make a bird shut up though, no one's invented the birdie gag yet.
I think you'll find the answer to her noise problem would be to get her a friend! when there are two together they enjoy each other's company and are less likely to shout for you (which is what she is doing!). They do need company as they are flock creatures so when kept on their own will need another friend - either human or bird and their way of asking is to shoutI'm afraid.
I was thinking of getting her a friend actually. I was just a bit worried that they might both start to screech! I don't think my ears could cope with two of them!!
Also, even when I'm with her she'll still screech. She doesn't do it as constantly though. I only work part time so I'm at home most of the time, she's not often on her own. And my mum's always popping in and out to check on her. Do you think she might squalk at me because she doesn't like me?!?
If I got her a friend, would they be ok in an avairy? I wonder if having more space permanently would be better for her. I try to let her out of her cage for as long as possible but I have to shut her in if I leave the room or she shreds everything #rolleyes# lol!
Bad news guys... my neighbour complained about her to my Dad. He's complained to me several times and I've just ignored him but he collared my Dad in the garden earlier. He owns a hotel and he says Ivy's causing all his guests to complain.
My Dad hates my pets (he was supposed to be helping me to build an aviary when we moved but 7 months later - nothing...) he's insisting she has to go now. He's been dying for a reason to lower the pet count for ages! I don't think I'm going to get around this one.
Actually, I was very surprised by my Dad the other day... Alan complained again (he's a twat, that guy!!) and my Dad turned round and started having a go at him about all his animals (3 sheep, 2 goats, a pony, 4 dogs, 3 cats.... that I know of...) and pointed out that since we moved in, his garden animals have destroyed our hedge, broken our fence, made a hole in our shed, and got in our garden and eaten half the shrubs and pooed everywhere. He also remembered that one of Alan's dogs got out and attacked me so reminded him of that too..... funnily enough, he hasn't complained again!! Yey!! And Dad said he wasn't bothered about Ivy at all. I nearly fell over in shock to be honest!! #cheesy#
For some reason (I don't really know how or why) Ivy's been a lot quieter recently too. So for the time being, it's all ok again! Just need to wish and hope that it stays this way!
