my budgie over recent days has developed noisy breathing. It's like she is hyperventilating, every breath has a loud noise and she is breathing quite fast. She shares a cage with a cocketiel who still has a beak problem, it looks as if his lower beak won't stop growing, it comes way up over his upper beak, and I see some blood at the join of his lower beak and face. It splinters. I'm so scared he can't eat for pain and with the budgie showing probs, should they be separated? Our local vet does her best but I don't think she is an expert on birds. has anyone else had these problems and can anyone adivse on what I can do to help this time. thanks

I would try and get both to the nearest avain vet
dose the budgie have any discharge from her nose or mouth?
I would separte them as for the budgie maybe sick and pass it to the cockatiel you have

Also cockatiels are a very dusty bird and if the budgie is already unwell the dust could be exacerbating the problem. I agree with what Shell has said.

Sorry to hear about your birds, I think they need separating too, as both sound so very different. You say your cockatiel is not eating very well, Does your vet trim the beak? If it splinters, it will need grinding down under anesectic. Meantime just feed as much soft food as you can. heres a list of Avian vets www.birdcareco.com/English/Avian_vets/avian_vets.html#Lancashirewww.provet.co.uk/There is an article on the problem your cocktiel seems to have all the best, and keep us updated, it sounds like you have two poorly birds
