Hi all, I need a little help. I came home from work today and found my parakeet, Bella, with a puffy eye that looks pink-ish. Her eyelid is what is swollen. I don't think here eye was puffy this morning. Her mate does pick on her and they fight, do you think that he would have pecked her eye? Does anyone know of common eye diseases for parakeets? Thanks!

Sorry I hadn't seen this post before now. How is Bella's eye now? It could well be her eye was puffy from fighting with her mate - they tend to get a little rough. It could be allergies - dust pollen etc. Keep an eye on her - no pun intended - and if it's still swollen then a little dab a couple times a day with salted warm water.

also i will say i have had animals including my parrots with eye probs befor now, from pecking injuries and even one budgie had been picked on so much i thought he was going to loose his eyes.as the skin and the eye itself had been torn don't know why/how.vets said we don't know what we can do at the moment.so i brought him indoors and washed his eyes out with hypomellose 2-3 times a day.and maxitrol 2times daily also.they are meant to be for humans lol.vet has also told me a while ago use it onone of my dogs when he gets sore eyes as he has bad dry eye .so that day when nothing could be done i tried this on the budgie he's a big boy.think he has a brain prob as he twitches alot but he's happy and feeds/drinks well so as long as he's happy then he's fine.and these drops worked miricles

Sorry I never followed up on this. Bella's eye healed within a few days, which led me to believe that she got in a little spat with her cage mate, Vincent. Thanks for your replies!
