This is the first seizure since November. I was so sure he was on the mend from whatever is causing them. Now for this to happen it's scaring me to death. But for him I have to stay calm and keep him happy. Hopefully this time we will get to the bottom of whatever it is and start treating him.

Just a little update and a hello from my sweet baby. We are still waiting on the vet to call to set up an appointment. I am just finishing up work so I'll give him a call and we will go from there. Robby says HI everyone and thank you all so much for caring.

Hi Robbie, be a good bird and stop plucking for your mum, and dont worry about the vet man, they are nice humans really ;D

I think he tries not to pluck for especially after his seizures he really goes to town and it's like he's so itchy that he just can't stop. BUT, he could be totally bald and I would love him just the same. The part that bothers me is the reason behind the plucking. I NEED TO KNOW. Hopefully tomorrow I'll hear from the vet. All I know is that his records did not get faxed over to the new vet until after 4pm today. So wait, wait, wait....

Awww! Robbie's adorable, what a gorgeous little guy and so very well loved. My thoughts are with you both. Foof and the Finchies send bird cuddles your way as well. (And likely some stray poops too... but we won't mention that... )

I finally got an appointment set for the blood work. Dr. Tucker is going to be doing bird checkups at the breeders on wednesday and that is closer to me so we will meet him there. Hopefully he'll get results from this. His concern is the liver.

Okay so Dr. Tucker called and gave me the results.
His liver and kidneys are fine. BUT, his blood sugar is WAY off the charts. I will need to change his diet completely because nectar is not too good as far as lowering his sugar intake. I'm waiting for Dr. Tucker to call me back on different diet solutions for him. What I'm thinking is mixing the nectar with more water. Right now I do 4 or 5 to 1 and maybe I should double the water to dilute it more but I'll have to wait until he calls back to see. Then after the diet change he'll need to be rechecked to see where the blood sugars are at. Hopefully we can fix him without insulin.

Sounds like a good idea. Have you also thought of only giving him his nectar fix every 2nd or 3rd day? I had to do that for mine years ago, she'd go absolutely psycho/hyper (more so than normal) and when I didn't give it to her every day she remained happily nuts. I also gave her more tree bits to shred. Ant larvae are full of protein so see if you can dig up an ants nest - he will lurve you more than usual for them! Too much sugar obviously isn't great even for nectar birds.
