Great idea, they are adorable birds Save up for a good size cage, then perhaps they will buy you the bird. Wash your parents cars for a month? heck i dont know ...just keep asking nicely.

Welcome! cockatiels are a great choice like scully said!! If I were in your shoes, I would try & learn as much as I could about them, (their care, food they eat, housing) then I would show your parents that your responsible enough to care for one & ask if by doing maybe more chores? maybe, thats what my daughter did with me & what I did with my parents, of course back then I was able to babysit a multitude of kids for extra cash LOL! there was always parents needing a break.. good luck though & keep us informed as to what happens!!!

Welcome to the forum Like the others have said - do loads of research, leave loads of information about tiels around your bedroom, slip the odd fact in about tiels to your parents at random moments, don't ask if you can have one straight after though - wear them down with your facts.... "Did you know that cockatiels... blah blah" You get the idea? They'll be impressed that you've gone to all that trouble learning about their behaviour and needs (well I would be!) ;D ;D ;D Tiels are fantastic birds and your parents will not regret letting you have one - infact it wouldn't surprise me if you had to limit their time with your bird they'll get that attached! Good Luck

Do alot of research, print out lots of material from the net. Buy a book on cockatiels. After doing all this, ask your parents for a family meeting to discuss the issue. Prepare yourself with your information and possible questions your parents may ask and then sit down and discuss it. Have written down a plan for looking after the bird including funds you can save and put aside for possible vet visits. Timetable for doing your homework, chores and play time with the bird (in that order). Do not get upset if they say no, just ask if you can rediscuss it in 6 months' time. Above all - do not beg, that will make them dig their heels in all the more.

Check out library too - I found some great books on Tiel behavior and such that helped me understand Foof. (As much as it's possible to understand my delightfully weird bird! ;D) Sounds like you'd be a great Tiel mama and let us know how it goes. I agree with Kiwi that your parents will get attached. My roommate got married so I'm staying with my mom while I find a place I can afford on my own and she's already decided she has to get a Tiel because she'll miss Foofer when I go.

That is good news. Are you getting a handraised one? It would be best - harder to tame a parent raised bird.
