Hey everyone!
Just had to post about my little surprise this morning - I wandered down to the shed to do my usual pet feeding routine and as I was stood in there, I could hear that pip-pip noise of chicks. This confused me something rotten as my birds haven't tried to breed at all since we moved! There are only a handful of nest boxes in their big cage and the occupants are forever changing as they fight over who gets to use them. After some hunting around for wild bird nests (I really didn't think it'd be any of mine!) I looked in the cage and saw Heather and Paul, a pair of zebs, happily feeding a tiny little chick. Gosh I was surprised! I didn't even know they had eggs! I watched them for a while and gave them a load of egg food and all seems fine. I can't really see in the nest as it's one of those rubbish little straw pouch things but there were definately two little heads having a look out. I think there might actually be three as Heather appeared to be feeding another out of sight at the back of the nest.
Normally, I wouldn't be that excited about zebby chicks to be honest (it's not like they're hard to breed!) but I really didn't think anything would breed in that cage and they've proved me wrong! Also, Heather's only got one foot (that's where the name idea came from...) so I'm very proud of her for coping so well I took pictures, but as per usual, I can't upload any until I charge the camera and find the usb lead!
