Is breeding, selling and owning hybrids illegal? About two years ago, I was walking through a pet store and saw a Catalina Macaw. I had never heard of them so I began a bit of research. Seems they have a bit of a following for a hybrid. I won't argue for breeding or selling, but I sure hope there is a grandfather law for people who already owned them if that is a true law. I can't imagine having to put my pet down (hybrid or not) just because of what he was.

In most (if not all) states in Australia it is illegal to intentionally hybridise controlled species (native's requiring paperwork to move). It's not illegal to own a hybrid of any species, same as selling.
