I was cleaning Juniper's cage out today and noticed that area above his beak (i forget the name) was pretty pink. I had herd blue was for boys, and pink stood for girls, but I want to clarify. The man in the pet store where I got him thought he was male, and I have herd that with lutinos and albinos it's pink either way, and he's a yellow lutino.

Male lutino's are either a purple or a fleshy pink colour. The ino's and recessive pied males don't get a blue cere. Females are always brown/beige no matter what their colour mutation.

Alright, then Juniper would be a boy. I've visited the pet shop where I got him a lot and saw him when he was just a little boy. (He was so cute!) Thanks for the help though.

Hi
My budgie Blue (named after her feathers colour) has always had a blue/brown cere but she is so grouchy we are sure she is a girl.

I reckon you are right Billie. Blue sure looks like a girl - even has the "hawkish" look to her eyes that I associate with the larger sized females.

sorry to take over the post but im having trouble sexing lemon, kiki is male 'creamino' apparnetly but has a blueish cere and is always chatty like males normally are, bobby is definatly female brown cere and a bit of a nasty bite but lemon doesnt chatter as much as kiki but more so than boby as bobby is really quiet and lemons cere is practically white and is lutino.

It is hard to tell without a picture, but I'd think that Lemon is a boy. Even in Lutinos the female should have a brownish cere. If you have a picture I'll take a peek! This isn't really on topic, I know, but you've peaked my interest... what do you mean that Kiki is "creamino"? Never heard of it. Where did you get the term?

creamino is a term used when a bird is really pale yellow - almost like the yellow around the quick reply box. Technically they are still a lutino but as the yellow is a golden bright yellow it's more cream coloured. What coloured eyes does Kiki have? Are they red or black? Does he have an iris ring? Lemon sounds like an enigma, I would also like to see a pic of the cere and won't hazard a guess. Is Lemon young?
