Hi everyone! Just thought I'd post some pictures of my two budgies. After moaning about my dislike of all things budgie-shaped, I've decided I actually quite like them now! Anyway, here they are! This one's looking a lot better than when I got him but he's still a scruff! And the other one! She's lovely! I've only had her a few days but she'll sit on my hand and let me scratch her neck already. I'm a bit baffled by what colour she's attempting to be though! She's got a bit of everything on her! The plan is to put them both in together eventually but I want to take the blue one (Victor!) to the vets first as I'm a bit worried about the dirt on his cere. I'm not sure if it's dirt or he's discharging something out of his nostrils Urghh!!

I love them! Now I'm going to go out on a limb and make a weird theory... I think that Victor may be female. Sometimes in older females, they get a crust of dried brown skin on the cere, which sometimes stays and sometimes flakes off. Also, older or out of condition females sometimes lose the obvious brown coloring on the cere and go whitish-blue. So who knows? As for the other one... she's a girl! But she's got me pretty well confused with her colors! My first guess was that she is just a type 2 yellow face blue pied. So without the yellow face 2, she'd just be white and blue, but the yellow bleeds through and makes her look blue/green. But the odd competely blue feathers are confusing! It should be evenly mixed. If you can look under her wing, if it is more blue underneath, the yellow face 2 is probably what is going on. Whatever she is, she is a lovely lady!

Oh really? That's interesting! The poor things gone from being Victor to Victoria about four times now! LOL! Must be having an identity crisis! His/her cere does look flakey and the blue underneath is very pale in comparison to other budgies I've seen so I think you're probably right! Well, as long as he/she isn't sick, that's fine by me! I think it is quite an old bird. It has a leg ring actually, I'll have to see if I can read it properly and find out what it means. I'm sure it has 05 written on it sideways, I remember seeing it and wondering if that's the year she hatched? Is that old for a budgie? (question overload!! Sorry!!). As for the green one, she was in the pet shop with her nest mates and a couple of them were completely yellow (is that lutino in budgies??) so I wondered if one parent was blue and one was yellow and that made green but I thought I was being stupid! One of the others was yellow except the back of it's head was bright orange. I've never seen orange on a budgie before. I was quite surprised when it turned around!! Pretty though. I've just had a look under my green one's wings - it's just pale yellow (almost white!) under there, no blue Her wings feathers and most of her tail feathers are quite pale and the markings are almost "blurred" and they're quite pale too. Maybe she's a mutant budgie!!

05 is the year of hatching. 3yrs is in the prime of life.
I'll go opposite to my first theory and say Victor is a boy. A number of the poofier birds tend to look a bit "hawkish" if female. I think Victor has a case of scaley mite infection. How is his feet? are they scaley, scratchy, ugly? Anyway, even if not, do you have some baby oil? unscented with nothing added? bath the cere twice a day for about a week and it should clear up.
I'll go out on a limb and hazard a guess the female is a dominant pied. See the blotchy yellow across the chest? If it was a straight line of yellow (almost is anyway) she'd be referred to as an Australian Dominant Pied. I reckon she is moulting and that could be why her colours are a bit mixed, although, I have a skyblue male with patches of gray on him. Darn I wish one of the budgie forum people would come and look at her!

Victors feet look ok to me but then I don't really know about budgies so they could be hanging off and I'd think it was fine! I'll go out and try and get a picture. I haven't noticed him itching too much. He/she/it (totally confused! LOL! We'll go with he shall we?? ;D ) rubs his beak on the bars quite a bit though. Should I seperate him from the other birds? He's still in with the tiels but they seem fine. Well, except for one tiel but he's obviously an old guy, he's missing the tips to a couple of toes. Still doesn't really itch though.
The green one has yellow spodges on the back of her head too. Will she moult out those blue feathers? I like them, they're cute! But whatever colour she is, she's very sweet! Karen, do you think you could post a picture of her on your budgie forum and ask for me? I'd really appreciate it! It's not massively important, it's just my curiousity's got the better of me! ;D

George they are lovely, Can't help you on the techo stuff with budgies but your blue one reminds me of my blue budgie, Jabis . I had three budgies once upon a time called Georgie, Georgie and Jabis, wasn't very imaginative with names back then In my own defence though, I didn't have all three at the same time, so I can be excused for two georgies

Personally, I think Georgie's a brilliant name for a bird! LOL! Regarding Victors ugly mug, I've been to the pet shop and bought three different types of anti-parasite/mite medicine. I have a spray, a lotion and a spot on treatment so I'll try each in turn and let you know if I have any success with any of them! Fingers crossed Victor'll be looking beautiful in no time!

I'll deffo post her pic. Victor's feet look fine to me too so I guess it's just his beak. How about the name Lucy? just popped into my head - no reasoning behind the name.
