Nearly grown up beauties! Elegants have been duly added to my wish list... (it's getting pretty long, lol!)
I had to laugh at the picture of chasing a little one around. Kind of a "Why am I doing this, again?" moment. I'm glad I'm not the only one who pops the youngest chicks back in the box at night. I worry about them, but I thought I was just being paranoid.
You can see the 3 bubs here all fledged, 2 cinnamons in the background and the normal in the front. I don't know their sexes yet.
This little one has injured itself when it fledged (it's the one lying down in the above picture), it has a sore right leg and cannot stand on it or grip. I reckon it wrenched it all the elegant bubs were clumsy when they fledged. I felt all along the leg and toes and it seems fine - no breaks. If it doesn't recover I may just have to keep it as a pet. It flies really well though.
I love the soft baby feathers and the wide eyes in the earlier posts and now they are just so grown up and gorgeous! Hope the little one's leg feels better... but between you and me... I wouldn't mind just keeping it as a pet.
Thank you for the nice comments. They are all special. Thanks Liz, the little one's leg has healed nicely, he must have jarred it when crashing. Kangus - I have a spare male who is supposed to be split to pied so he's hoping! I will pair him to a cinnamon hen when she's old enough - I might get lucky. Tel, I'd love to keep them all but unfortunately I need new bloodlines, so 2 of the elegants I am looking at swapping out and all 6 baby bourke's I am looking to swap as I certainly don't want the siblings to mate.
