Hello everyone, about a week ago now lemon and bobby had a bit of a fight, didnt last long as me and my mum broke it up, but bobby bit lemons foot and and drew blood, i was quick to act and she stopped bleeding in a few minutes.
Her foot was swollen for a few days and i kept her seperate so she could recover and that she did, shes back with kiki and bobby and she seems completly fine with no sign of her foot hurting anymore and the swelling has gone.
The real problem i face now is i need to get some cream/powder to stop bleeeding quickly as i dont have any and just used a clean towel to hold the wound(not the best plan but it was the quickest and it worked) so if anyone could give me the name of a good make than it would be much appreciated, thanks.

I don't any particular names that are good, but I have read the certain types of those products are dangerous because they can burn the skin. I actually use regular flour. Perhaps it may not work as quickly, but it does help.

Thanks for that, ill have to keep that in mind. Is it just a case of rubbing someon the wound or is it mixed with something before application?

All that, and I forgot to say that I'm very glad Lemon is doing better! I'm not exactly sure what you mean... i did a bit of reading, the styptic powders/sticks are things that you put directly on the wound. Don't rub, as it will only aggravate the wound more and cause more bleeding. With clean flour you would do the same thing. It helps the blood to clot. The main issue with styptic substances is that it can cause chemical burning if put directly on the skin, (they are used mainly for stopping bleeding when you cut the quick during nail trimming) people say it isn't serious, but I thought the whole idea was to help the wound heal, so I'd rather use flour if it is a bite wound. With this sort of thing there are lots of opinions, so it is your own decision.

Orite i get it, i read some where that you are meant to rub the powder on, i think it was a book from quite a while ago so it would probably be out of date, ill keep that in mind and have some at the ready from now on, just in case it happens again.
Again thanks for the advice, really needed it.

If you have an open wound, you can also use Honey(the clear sort) as its a natural antiseptic.

MY little parakeet will bite my other birds' feet for no reason, so I have to be prepared for that all the time. I just use flour, as has been suggested, and it works very well for us. I'm glad Lemon is all right!

I've also read about flour working well. Hope your little Lemon recovers completely soon!
