Oops! Erik, I was sure that I had replied to this already! Sorry...
I don't have any special "techniques" really. I just distract Jasper if he gets too lovey, or I set him down and move away. It seems to work well. As for preferring kisses, I've just been doing my best to encourage him when he is in snuggly moods, and he is doing much better and not regurgitating as much.
As Karen said though, he may just be growing out of it!

Minty is always trying to feed the perch seed. He goes to the feeder picks up a single seed then plays with the seed in his mouth and trys to feed it to the perch. We think its coz when there were more birds he used to often get pushed off the feeder. So he thinks he can only get a bite in before getting pushed off the pot. Its taking him a while to adjust to the fact he's ok for longer now.

He tries to give his seed to the perch itself? Goofy bird hehe. Oops! Erik, I was sure that I had replied to this already! Sorry... As Karen said though, he may just be growing out of it! No prob, Liz! But you actuallly did reply to this thread on the first page. And I think you're right about him growing out of it. He's not doing it nearly as often these days.
