Anyone here have a Caique?
I love my little green cheek, but I guess you could say that Caiques are my "dream bird" and someday, I will have one. Just need to come up with the money, lol. They sure are expensive little guys.

Don't think anyone here has one. Someone on another board I frequent got one, visited with it while it was still being raised. It's such a little clown and completely gorgeous! I'd love 1 or 2, last time I saw them for sale in Oz they were $3000 each for the Black Headed ones. Quite a bit out of my price range.

I've seen them around $1500. I used to work with a few of them and I was smitten the first time I ever held one. I can't get enough. I have to start my Caique savings plan, lol. It will be at least several more years before we even have the space for one.

That might have been a white-bellied caique I think. That's cheaper than the ones i've seen around. When I fist saw the $1000 price I was shocked. ( would be the perfect emoticon for that is the tomato wasn't there)

Hi ! I have two caiques....I"m in Florida. I have a black head and a white belly. The prices in the states can vary I guess depending on where you get them but 3,000 is high, I guess thats CA prices? If you're in the U.S., please check out a friend of ours, she ships her birds all the time. www.shadypines.com

nah mate, I'm in Australia - all the really attractive birds are expensive down here. I would love a pair of Lineolated parrots but alas, in Oz they were 2-3 thousand each when I enquired a couple years ago. #cry#

Caiques sure have unique coloring. I have seen them advertised by local breeders for around $600.00 to $800.00 US dollars. I guess that is better than what some of you are seeing! Now I am gong to let my ignorance really show here but I just gotta ask....how do you pronounce Caique? I can't find out the pronunciation. To me it looks like you would say "cake"....but I am sure I am way off. Try not to laugh too loud...hehe!

They are pretty breathtaking birds! Definitely out of my price range too, though. I'm posting because I also would like to know how to pronounce the name, as well as add my own request... I can't figure out how to pronounce kakariki! I figured somebody could enlighten us both in one post...

I've only ever heard people pronounce Caique - cake. Kakariki - kak-car-ricki, just say it fast.

Ok....I found out how to say Caique!!! My son sent me a link to an online Dictionary that pronounces the word. My kids are so much more computer savvy than me...lol. Here is the link if you want to hear how Caique is pronounced. I will have to try out some more words...this could be fun! www.howjsay.com/index.php?word=caique&submit=Submit

the white belly has got a long beak. I'm not positive, but I think that is normal, Chirps. They are very impressive!

Budgiebuddy you are correct! The yellow-thighs have a more slender upper mandible than the black headed, also as you can see the colour is skintone instead of black. Rupert is only 2 years old so is still a baby whereas the blackheads are 18 years!!
