I'm trying to get the cage all set up for the GCC, and I need some kind of fastener to keep the many small doors on the new cage shut... they are the kind that slide up and down and I'm afraid the new bird will be able to open them.
I tried looking at key ring (split ring) type things, lanyard hooks, quick links, and carabiners, but everything is either too big to keep the door shut or has nickel, zinc, or tin in it. Any suggestions?
To make things more complicated, some people say nickel is dangerous, and others say it is fine!
EDIT: Now I feel like a complete ninny! I just thought of using cable ties to keep the doors shut... I'd still like to hear you guys' opinions on nickel and/or any other suggestions you may have.

Boris is a master at opening doors, on all of her doors I have those dog clips. No bird can open them.

I expect it will be awhile before he/she works it out.. ;D I would certainly hope so! lol Sal, I actually saw videos of some birds on youtube unlocking padlocks to their cage when somebody "accidentally" left the key too close to the cage!
