Just under 2 years ago, I brought 2 Zebra Finches - 1 male and 1 female. About 6 months after I had them the male started plucking the females feathers out.
After changing their toys, getting them a bigger cage etc I thought it was because they wanted to nest. I brought them a bamboo nest and they were fine up until 3 days later when the male wouldn't want the female to come out of the nest to eat or drink. I seperated them for a few days and the female stopped sitting on the eggs.
Around Christmas I put the nest back in and they were fine - taking it in turns to be in the nest again but after a week the male started chasing the female back into the nest again. I took it out and now they're okay. I've been advised to change the pair, should I buy 2 more Zebra Finches and put them in the same cage?
I do want another male and female but i'm not sure whether they'd fight or just get on with the pair that I have now.
