Hello,
My name is Jeanne and I live in Michigan, 45 minutes NE of Detroit. I came across your site while doing a Goggle search, looking for a group of others that also own Cockatoos and other birds.
I had birds about 20 years ago, a Blue Macaw, 2 Amazons and a pair of Peach Faced Lovebirds. Yes, I had all four of them at the same time. I was much younger than and had more energy. Now, I have a 19 year old, female, Mollucan Cockatoo, named Sammy, which I just got this past Friday.
I'm looking forward to getting to know everybody here and hopefully learning some helpful information about giving Sammy a very happy, loving and safe home.
Jeanne

Yep, she's 19. I was surprised when I found out her previous owners wanted to find her a new home, they'd had her for so long.

I wouldn't let her go if I had her for that long! She would be as much respected as a family member as my Mum!
Well, I guess they couldn't take care of her any longer. but she's in a good home now!

They hated to give her up, but one of them developed an allergy to her dust. The poor thing was in an upstairs bedroom, all by herself, they interacted with her, but like Cockatoos need.
Yes, she's in a very good home now.

Welcome to Bird Crazy Jeanne, Sammy (and Lonely-Parrot). You have done a lovely thing taking in a parrot from ones who can no longer give her a home. I received some budgies awhile ago from their breeder for a similar reason. I'm sure you will be able to regale us with all the craziness Sammy gets up to. Judy (Loribabe) on here has a Red Tailed Black and a Major Mitchell cockatoo so I'm sure she'll be more than happy to swap tails (pun intended lol) with you.
