Hi everyone, sorta newbie in southbay florida. Don't have a bird right now but am researching and have a big flight aviary. Kinda got it narrowed down to one of the top 3 beginner birds: finches, budgies or cockatiels (the pet stores have hand fed babies that they will let you come in like everyday and handle them before they are ready to go home with you, that is making a tiel very attractive.) Otherwise I have to locate a local breeder of gouldians because our pet stores don't even carry them ($150 ea if they do.) And I've had so many parakeets in my like, kinda want something different you know?

I'd go for finches every time! I like the fact that you can keep loads of different species together! Think I'd get bored if I was limited to one species. Maybe finches in the flight and a cockatiel in the house?! #cheesy#

Welcome to Bird Crazy! Another good parrot for a relative beginner is the Kakariki. They are very entertaining birds.

Um, I dunno about a straight up parrot, probably going for the cockatiel. They sell these babies up the street that I can come in and handle until they are ready to go. Yeah, that's what I'm going to get; most likely a lutino. I've got 2lbs of freeze dried mealies and crickets that I'll give it when it's young so it gets as much protein as it can while young. Everyone likes the cockatiels. I'd get gouldians if they come available but not likely.
