Not shore where I should put this..... The USDA is planning a program called NAIS - National Animal Identification System. This program will require that every animal owned in the United States be chipped and registered with the goverment. Every movement off the registered premises of that animal must be reported within 24 hours of that movement to the goverment. If not reported then a "fine"would be levied. This law would give the goverment the right to come on or into your property 24/7 without a warrent and with out annoucement to kill or remove your animal(s) without your permission. Currently this is in effect in Texas and Oaklahoma with livestock only in a "voluntary manner." Currently there is a bill in the NY state legislature to chip dogs and cats. You can read about it here: nonais.org/index.php/but-what-is-nais/The actual proposal here: animalid.aphis.usda.gov/nais/index.shtmlThis will go into effect July 2006

This is scary stuff! I don't think this type of scheme is workable! Think of all the work involved. I've heard of some stupid things (like New Zealands DoC making it so breeders have to kill their own Kakariki) but this? All I can do is shake my head!

That's utterly bizarre! It will never work! I'm NOT microchipping my birds because the only avian vet in the area charge $400 dollars a bird. No way can I afford that. That is utterly bizzare! It might work well with the larger livestock (Cow, horses, pigs, etc.- but not birds, dogs or cats)
