I thought this might happen. My bird was on a pellet diet when I got him. I started giving him seed as well and now he only eats the seed. Would it be cruel to only give him seed like twice a week and take out the seed cup the rest of the time so he eats the pellets? He seemed a little upset when I took the cup out to clean so i'm a little worried he will freak out. Should I leave the empty cup in there. Ugh please help I'm not sure what to do and I don't want to be cruel. (By the way, he still doens't eat fruits and veggies either). Thanks in advance for your help.

Try leaving both containers in, but limit the amount of seed you give the bird daily. I know a budgie only needs 2 teaspoons of seed a day, as long as they are given other foods.

A pellet diet for small birds is not realy a good thing anyways. I am a hater for pellets. But since he is used to them Two bowls are good. Keep trying the vegetables. One day he may just eat them. Have you tryed sprouts this would be a good way to start him off on the right track.

hopping the veggies up really small helps, I use scissors on them once they are in the bowl to get little pieces : )

Thanks for all of the advice. I do keep trying the veggies. I have even shredded carrots and cut small pieces in case he has a prefernce for one to the other. He just throws it on the ground piece by piece and then looks at me when its empty. He's such a ham!! I will keep trying though. He is a very cautious bird, not with people but with food and toys. Since we are so bonded i figured i would eat it in front of him so hopefully that works over time. We'll see. My dad said he looked kind of thin that's why I was getting worried.

Have you tried putting in the fruit and veggies before the seed and pellets? I found that helped my fids get used to them as they're more likely to try them when they're hungry.

My girl Boris would always want what I was eating or drinking. One time when I wasn't watching she crawled up and was eating my sandwich! In the end though it got to the stage where I had to lock her up as I couldn't eat or drink anything in peace! Even after the last bite went in my mouth she still tried to get some!! Keep trying with your boy Karma - especially eating in front of him.

That's funny Karen. You guys will not believe this...I swear I think my budgie likes to make me look dumb on these forums. He ate carrots last night!!! I put some in the cup and he threw them around as usual. But then I put the rest of the mini carrot into a clip (which I never even thought of duh) on the side of the cage and he ate some of it. Yay!!!! He always does this...waits until I post something and then does it. Silly bird
