Hey everyone I have just got my old budgie back because she was causing problems with her owners asthema and when i let her go she was tame and everything but now she has got into a habit of biting. i think it is because she had two mirrors and a little toy budgie which i think she was trying to protect. Is there any easy way for me to tame her up again or will i have to start all over again? also will this effect the relationship with me and my other budgie?

You can tame her up again without starting all over, just make your movement's with her slowly and she if is biting on when you approach closely that can be overcome with time also.. I find when you move away from any actions a parrot does the parrot thinks it is boss..if l ignore it ,they stop what they are doing.. As far as relationship with the other budige, that's a hard one for each bird has it's own personality "some good some bad"so maybe someelse can help All l can suggest it when spending time with one do it so the other doesn't see..

Youll also find maybe later on, when you have your budgie tamed again, he may enjoy the company of another budgie, thats why he got so protective of his toy.

thanks for that you two but she is actually still quite tame so thats good. however she has got really fat since i had her and she cant fly very well, she keeps crash landing on the floor. some more good news though is that kiki seems fine with bobby back but just seems to be trying to say 'im the boss' to bobby so ive kept them seperate but cages close so they can see each other and also kiki still loves being out with me.

all sounds good so far kiki could just be trying to show bobby the pecking order, ie "ive been here longer so im the boss" im sure given time they will both enjoy each others company

Great to hear all is well..:)the weight well..it all depend on its diet it has been feed before..if you don't know, well best to wait a couple of weeks to your diet and see if there is improvements..Normally a seed and green diet with flight cages shouldn't case weight gain and now you have her even thou he crashe's to the ground been out and about, things should start to improve..Just when he comes out of the cage best to start him only about a foot of the ground so he doesn't crash just have a soft landing"so to speak"..

thanks for the help. Bobbys new diet that i fed her before she moved out and than came back is a good mix of seeds and brocolli, carrot and apple. she has had about 4 hours out today but has been crashing alot so hopefully she'll loose some weight rather quickly.

Hi Matthaismouse
I had an established cage of 4 budgies when I fell in love with my 5th and Tiny came home. Tiny was in a quarentine cage for about 2 months in the end, we went on hols and didn't want them to fight when we weren't around. Our neighbour popped in a few times a day to look after them.
Well Tiny was VERY young and became tame and it was great I worried when I put him in the big cage with the others that they might fight or stop hm being so tame. He does front it out a bit like 'Oh Mum, I'm with my mates now' kind of thing but if there is a toy or food on offer then its very much a case of 'stuff them' and he's straight on to my hand, they all still sit on my finger, except Blue who was a bit older and never has stepped up but will tolerate me near her.
Good luck I hope it all goes well for you and your birds.

hey everyone. bobby has lost a lot of weight and now seems a lot more active. however, kiki doesnt stay with me anymore and niether does bobby. they try to fight whenever their out and i now really dont know what to do. I would do anything to have an aviary but i cant as money wont allow it and i want to do whats best for them. when it was just me and kiki it used to be great but everythings gone wrong and i am starting to feel like i dont want either of them anymore. what can i do?

now that you have him losing weight you might need to keep an eye on it. this is only an opinion i have but i believe some budgies put on weight a LOT easier than others through no fault of diet or lack of excersize my sherby is a prime example lol he has a very varied diet (seed/fruit/veg/cereal and anything else he can pinch off your plate) and also get LOADS of flight time, more than my others cos he's an old boy and we all got a soft spot for him and cant resist when he begs at the door lol but he STILL gets "fat moments" when for a few weeks at a time he will be so podgy that he has trouble lifting off to fly #rolleyes# or another theory.... maybe its a case of "like owner like pet"?? lol

OK everybody I have decided the following. In my bedroom I have a large cupboard thing with a door. If I remove the door, set it up as a big table i will have more storage space so I can have th budgie cages on one desk and another cage on another desk for a cockatiel. If I was to do this would the cocatiel get along with the budgies when all of them are out together or would they fight. Ive heard cockatiels dont fight its just the budgies may bully him/her. Also instead of a hand reared cockatiel I could get another small parrot. The question is should I or shouldnt I.
Please reply.
Also The bird I want to get is one that would love staying with me so I have atleast one bird that will stay with me.
