Wow, this thread is old! I'm very VERY pleased to announce that Buggy is still alive and well. He just had his 5th hatch day a couple months ago. I ended up brining him to a new vet and within 30 seconds she found two fatty tumors on his breast/belly. (we had been to the old vet MANY times and he never even checked for them) He's been coping with them very well and although he can't fly as well anymore he still gets around pretty good. I think his best friend (my cockatiel) kinda keeps him going. The vomiting was caused by an infection which we cleared up with antibiotics. I'm very thankful that he's still with me!

Buggy was well for a week and then took a turn for the worse on this last Friday. He's been laying down to rest a lot. I'm usually pretty good at keeping my worries at bay (I pray instead this time I let the fear in. I'm SO scared and I don't want to go through losing another baby! I hurts so much and leaves a hole in my heart forever. (I know you guys understand this) Not sure what is wrong with Buggy because his droppings seem fine and he acts normal sometimes, but we're going to the vet ASAP in the morning. I tried to get an emergency appointment this weekend, but no one was available to see birds. If you think of it, please say a prayer for us especially that the vet would have wisdom. Thanks for your concern and I'll be sure to keep you updated

Liz, thanks for your reply. Buggy seems pretty normal today. Maybe a little sleepier than usual, but he's eating, drinking and his poops are back to normal looking. I've decided to wait out the weekend and if he's still showing signs of sickness by Monday then we'll be going for a vet visit. (If he suddenly gets worse we'll go in for an emergency visit, but like you said, that kinda hurts on the money end of things.) Thanks again, I'll keep you updated

Hey all, I'm hoping some of you might be able to give me some advice on what to do next. Here's what's going on. Yesterday I did something that isn't in our(me and the fids) routine and I gave them boiled eggs for breakfast. This is something that I have done before. That afternoon I noticed that my budgie, Buggy was sleeping more than normal. Later I checked on him to find him resting on the bottom of his cage. By this time the vet had closed, so I decided to wait until today to make a decision. I had to make supper for the family, so I set up a video camera so that I could review it later to see what Buggy had been doing. I checked him again and he was vomiting :S He vomited at least three different times. By now I'm thinking the world is coming to an end, but popped in a new mem card for the camera and continued to make supper. The second video was much different. In the first he was pretty listless and poofy, but he seemed to feel better after throwing up (he also had VERY watery droppings) In the second vid he moved around a lot and sand and ate a little bit and I was pretty happy, thinking that maybe he got the it out of his system. Cut to today, and he's doing pretty good, but he's still not quite normal. I caught him resting on the bottom again and he's sleepier than usual. So, do you guys think that he might be recovering from his throwing up yesterday? Or think it's something more that I should be concerned about? I hate that this is the weekend and after today I won't be able to get him to a vet until Monday, but I don't know if I should bring him or not!
Thanks!

Sorry I never followed up on this. Bella's eye healed within a few days, which led me to believe that she got in a little spat with her cage mate, Vincent. Thanks for your replies!

Billie, I'm terribly sorry for your loss of Blue. She was beautiful. Cried for you and said a prayer for your healing...I know it's hard.

How cute! You have beautiful birds. My parakeet Bella loves to sit in her food dish. She ripped up some of her toy and stuck it in the bars under her dish so I think that she's pretending it's her nest.

MY little parakeet will bite my other birds' feet for no reason, so I have to be prepared for that all the time. I just use flour, as has been suggested, and it works very well for us. I'm glad Lemon is all right!

I only have a cockatiel and three parakeets. Pretty basic! They're all I can handle right now.

My cockatiel, Willow, is very attached to me, as I'm the only on that cares for him. He's recently been getting more and more aggressive toward everyone but me, and sometimes even me! He's 3 years old and not an only fid. I have three other parakeets. (He is sort of aggressive to them, too.) Does anyone have any ideas/training tips or advice?

My Tiel makes funny sounds when he doesn't know how to whistle the tune that I am. I'd say your little guy is probably just learning!

My Tiel does this, which upsets my other birds so they start flapping too. I really don't know why, but I think it might be because the house creaks or I shift around in my sleep. Like Tasha said, maybe a bad dream! A friend of mine has 7 parakeets in one cage and told me that they all flap like that sometime during the night when it is a full moon.

I was browsing through the list of avian vets and got to Iowa (where I live) to see if my vet was listed, and he's not. Maybe it would be a good idea to open those threads so that members can list a vet that's not there? Just a suggestion!

Hi all, I need a little help. I came home from work today and found my parakeet, Bella, with a puffy eye that looks pink-ish. Her eyelid is what is swollen. I don't think here eye was puffy this morning. Her mate does pick on her and they fight, do you think that he would have pecked her eye? Does anyone know of common eye diseases for parakeets? Thanks! P.S. It almost looks like her eyelid won't close all the way.
