I`m not sure, I do know both are seasoned breeders & the woman that had them before would at times when she got over whelmed allow them to raise a clutch now & then, but probably this first clutch I will hand raise..the cock is still such a touchy soul with me & I want these fids real hand tame it does make me feel guilty pulling them..most the birds I place in homes are for pets..I know once I get my Turquoise green cheek pair set up & they start producing I had planned to allow them to each raise a chick, due to the fact they would stay here & be paired up. wouldnt it be a stinker if after I DNA`d them they all turned out to be the same sex! oh crap that would stink! lol OMG, you're getting a turquoise pair? I want a baby sooooooo bad!!!!!! I drool over pics of turquoise babies!

I don't know if that holds true for all of the different varieties. I was told this by someone who breeds the regular Green Cheeks and has not had any dna'd and has been correct on every occasion. It doesn't. Rosco's are pure white and a DNA'd female.

Okay, I've been trying to do research on other colors, and am having a hard time. Anyone have pics and/or can explain the different colors there are and what they look like? I know cinnamon, lol...

I don't feed my birds anything that you don't find in the wild. Pellets are not a natural food, they contain chemicals, preservatives etc. They are prone to mould and this can poison your bird. It's bad enough we have taken birds from their natural habitat, now we are taking away their natural food? Good point. What exactly DO you feed, then? What types of seeds, what fruits and veggies and what else in general?

Okay... here it goes. The other day at work, another girl who has birds told me that all my research on what to feed Rosco was wrong and that I am slowly killing him.
I feed Rosco a pelleted food with dried fruits and veggies in it. He gets sunflower seeds as training treats on occasion and I give him seed treat sticks once and a while. He gets fresh foods and home cooked foods daily. His diet is very varied and he rarely turns his nose to food because we started this at day one of him being home.
So, I'm curious. What do you feed and what are your thoughts on the seed vs pellet issue and why?

would he really do that! Have you tried sweet potato, Biggles loves it ;D how old is Rosco, he looks adorable Yep, lol, he charges anyone who walks in the door. Though, he's learned pretty quickly that charging gets him put in his cage, he just doesn't seem to care. He charges the dogs, the cat, and any human that is not me. He's 7 months, so starting to get hormonal now. He isn't too fond of the sweet potatoes. I keep trying them but he doesn't care too much.

Sadly, he wouldn't feel the same, the little poop, lol. He'd probably charge you and let you know you were in HIS house.

Wow, that is awesome! Once we buy a permanent house, maybe I'll look into that. Thanks.

I forgot to add that these taters were a different species than we normally use and at first he was freaked. He took a bite and flicked it all over and looked at me like I was nuts. LOL, then he came around and decided that even different taters are better than none.

Have you tried the aluminium bottle tops? I've had a few birds that love them and would "walk" around with one in her foot. Drill a hole in the middle and string them up. I'd love to see a vid of Astro rolling in the cupcake patty, sounds hillarious! That's an awesome idea. I, too, would love to see Astro rolling in the cupcake patty!

I want to make Rosco some new toys to see if I can't figure out exactly what he likes without spending too much on toys he won't touch. Is rawhide safe for birds? I know it's not too great for dogs.

I don't want to hijack the outdoor pic thread, so I decided to start a new thread. I guess since I am relatively new to bird ownership (I've had budgies, lovebirds a quaker and a little green parrot of unknown origin, but it's been years since I've owned a tame bird, my last budgie was NOT tame) this is something I have thought about, but hadn't gotten anywhere.
I want a small, but still roomy and PORTABLE outdoor aviary that I can personally build. If it's small enough to where two people can lift it into the back of a pick-up and move it (we plan on moving in about 4 years) and big enough for Rosco to play and move freely outdoors, that would be ideal. Right now, his outdoor time is very limited because my secure area is only somewhat secure. What materials, how can I cover it, bar spacing, should there be a solid ground or open ground? I really just don't know.
Once I get the actual aviary designed, I have a few more questions. What kind of branches are good? Do I need to get some from the store or can I clean ones I find outside?
I could go on all day, lol. I would appreciate any tips you can give me.

I love the outdoor enclosure. Did you build it yourself? If so, how? This is something I have really wanted to do, but on a much smaller scale since I only have one tiny green cheek and we won't be living in this house for more than a few more years.
