Those pictures of Blu are so cute. I love wet birdie pictures. They look like they have no clue what just happened to them.

Karen I actually looked up about ants or ant larvae for lorikeets. YES, they go nuts over them but they tend to overindulge. they actually love ants so much that they will eat them until they vomit....ewwwwwwwwwwww Anyway here is the article. www.kcbbs.gen.nz/lori/ar/ants.html

Thank you both. I wanted to shout it from the roof top when I found out his results. Like my neighbors would even know what I was screaming He is amazing and made it very easy for me to help him. I just had to know what was wrong first. To think it's almost been 2 years since the first vet visit on this and finally after changing vets it's only been 6 weeks for a total turn around.

I am so happy right now I can't even think. Robby had blood work done this afternoon and his levels as the Doctor said are AMAZING!!! 6 weeks ago his blood sugar level was OFF the chart, Dr. Tucker guessing at about 1000. Normal is between 200 and 400. Today his level is 464 just after a few weeks. If they had been around 600 then I would have had to hospitalize him so they could have started him on insulin. BUT Robby did it. Just a complete diet change has saved his life. Man, what a relief for Robby and I. He is such an amazing baby... I'm very teary right now as you guys can probably tell I actually keep running down to his room and kissing him and telling him I love him....he gets all excited and says "THAT'S IT" Not only is his blood sugar level down but all other levels that were off just a little are all normal. Dr. Tucker said that I just made a very sick little guy into a normal bird again. I'm crying again. But they are happy tears.

Hi Dawn, I'm fairly new so I don't know you but I can't wait to see pictures when you get things all sorted out. Sounds like you have quite a lot going on there.

Hi Roger welcome to the board. So sorry for your loss. I really can't advise you but I think it is good advise to introduce a mate or even just a companion slowly to any birds. good luck It's so sad when they lose their bonded mate.

I think my birds are so used to the camera now they just ignore that I even have it and go on to what they were doing. All but Jimmy, he stops whatever he's doing and poses I've been trying forever to get a picture of him swinging up-side-down...but NO way.

Jimmy is a sweetheart and for sure MY baby.
Pete is a cuddly too.
Rosy is a little bird with a HUGE attitude problem. I've never been able to pet her and man can she bite if I try. Mind you she will let you do anything to her if you wear gloves. I found that very sad at first but hey whatever makes her happy.

I just love Robby and other rainbow lories! They just look so cute! Is Robby still plucking out his feathers? I'm not sure if you realize that this video is of Billy not Robby. I have 2 lorikeets. As for Robby he is still plucking but I think maybe he's slowed down a bit. I will get some pictures of him over the weekend. right now I am focused on his blood sugar levels, once that comes down then I'll speak to the vet on maybe trying some medicam to help relieve some of the itching as the new feathers come in.
