I can't find my camera at the mo (worst part of moving house in stages), and you take such fab piccies and the batties would be honoured to sit for a portrait pretty pleaseeeeeeeeee

That darstardly MBS has only gone and struck again in the Batty household I had no intention of going anywhere near birdies today, and actually went out to buy a shed heater for the bunnies - HONEST! Unfortunately for me they also have aviaries there now I was actually very good and didn't buy anything. As I was wandering around waiting to be served I spotted a beautiful blue budgie boy with really badly splayed legs. now me being me, I should have kept my trap shut, paid for my heater and left, but nooooooo! I said is the wee lad with the splayed legs for sale, and the lady said no I'm afraid not, but if you would like to give him a good home we are happy for you to take him - doh! Well what's a Batty to do eh ?? Sooooooo to cut a long story short Tommy is now sitting in my aviary with his little wonky leggies being oggled by all the girlies I confess I have NO self control when it comes to special needs tweeters

This morning I said goodbye to my litte Victoria For those of you who didn't know her, I adopted her and her husband Albert approx 18 months ago. They are both almost 10 years old, and Victoria had a large benign growth on her tummy. Until recently it really hasn't bothered her, but during the last 3 weeks her lump began to grow again, and grew by a further 2 cms. Over the last few days her breathing hasn't been normal and the skin was beginning to look sore over the growth. Taking everything into account I made the decision this morning to allow her to fly over the rainbow bridge. RIP Victoria

Welcome to the tweeter-zone! I'm sure you'll love the forum. Look out though, a couple of months as a member here and your beak count is in serious danger of going from 2 to 22

Hi Micky & Sylvia - welcome to the madhouse As you can tell we are all piccie mad on here, and the only way to stop the begging is to get posting ;D Your visiting Gallahs must be stunning - I would love to have a Gallah one day but with me working full time at the moment it just wouldn't be fair on the bird as I couldn't give it the time it deserved. One for when I retire me thinks (19 years and counting!)

Hiya, and welcome aboard they're a fab bunch on here and I'm sure you'll have a great time! The only extra advice that I can offer is that for some strange reason they seem to find two syllable words easier to tackle to begin with eg, Pol-ly, Mum-my, Pret-ty. Other than that it's just down to repitition - you may even find yourself waking up in the night repeating the word over and over Not all birds will talk, but be warned those that do tend to pick things up very easily once they get started

Hi Brandon
Well done for helping this finch ;D
Where are you? Are you in the UK? If you are anywhere on the south coast I know a very good wild bird hospital, otherwise a quick google should find one local to you.
Sick birds like this really do need specialist care, so the best thing that I could suggest for the moment is to keep him someone warm quiet and preferably dark so that he can relax. Stress is one of the worst things for birds. Leave a small dish of water (a saucer would be fine) in the cage/box with him. I find that a lot of smaller birds will eat greens such as grass, so if you have any to hand just pull a bit of that and pop it on the floor with him.
I'll PM you my phone number so that if you have any questions you can give me a buzz.
Best of luck, let us know how you get on.

Hi Billie Sorry to hear about Sky - how's she doing? I had an almost identical problem with one of my budgies, Mr Tickles, at the end of last year. The lump was in exactly the same position between the legs and my concern was that it would end up putting pressure on his nerves. Like Sky, Mr Tickles was a bit off colour although I wouldn't have said he was hanging off his perch, just not himself. I'm not sure where you are in the UK, but I am very lucky to have an extraordinary avain vet only 40 miles from where I live. This gentleman successfully operated on the Tickle monster and removed the lump. After biopsy it showed to be a benign fatty tumour, and although he is likely to get more at some point he is back to being his old grumpy selft again - lol! The vet that treated Mr Tickles said that he used a new method of operating that significantly reduced the risk of bleeding, and while no surgery is safe for birds it definitely made it easier than it might otherwise have been. Mr Tickles came through the surgery brilliantly well, and within 2 days the only sign that he'd been poorly were the stitches in his bottom! These disolved themselves after a couple of months, and you'd never know that there was anything wrong with him The only downside to this surgery was the cost (my birds aren't insured), which came out to just over £200. Best of luck with Sky, and let me know if you would like me to send you the number of the vet. Hugs from the Batties

Hey Littleears - your birds are lovely I've found with mine that they love playing with the silliest things. There are loads of great toys out there to buy, but you can also entertain them with home made stuff too. Mind love playing with their Broccoli - I cut it off on a long stalk and stick it through the bars for them to play on - bonus is they are getting some good nosh too In the past I've also strung up some cardboard tubes for them (from the centre of kitchen rolls/loo rolls). If you string a few together they climb all over it and then chew it to bits. Can be a wee bit messy for you, but they'll love it
