Hi A guinea pig is often thought of as a good pet for children, and this is true, but as with all pets, parents must make certain the child is old enough to be gentle with the animal and mature enough to care for it properly. A guinea pig is a sociable animal and needs a home where it will receive attention and affection. Being left in a cage and ignored is a harsh life for the guinea pig. They are affectionate animals that love to be held, and owners should be prepared for this. Thanks Dog Beds

Hi The Richter scale is used to measure the magnitude of earthquakes. The scale, more formally known as the Richter magnitude test scale, ranges from 0 to over 8.0. It is a logarithmic scale, meaning each unit of increase on the scale corresponds to an absolute increase by an order of magnitude, or factor of 10. Earthquakes measured at less than about 2 on the Richter scale are not very serious, and can barely even be measured, much less felt. An earthquake is usually considered much more serious once it hits about 5. At magnitudes of 7.0 or 8.0 the damage can be catastrophic. Thanks Dog Beds

Hi A peroxisome is a specialized structure inside a cell which helps to rid the body of the host organism of toxins. In animals, peroxisomes are often especially concentrated in the neighborhood of the liver and kidneys, the filtration centers for toxins. In plants, peroxisomes assist with photosynthesis. In either instance, a peroxisome disorder can be a serious problem, as these structures are crucial to the wellbeing of much of life on Earth. Thanks Dog Beds

Hi Stink bugs, also sometimes referred to as shield bugs, are members of the hemiptera order. They are aptly named because these bugs have small glands located on their thorax that are capable of emitting a malodorous liquid. This ability is believed to be a defensive mechanism they employ against predators and when a stink bug is mishandled, it will in fact defensively release an odor. Thanks Dog Beds

Hi Dog mites can live anywhere in a dog's fur. These tiny parasites can cause sores, itchiness and infection. These mites, which are a part of the spider family, come in many varieties, which can be treated in several different ways. Dips, lotions and medicated baths are all ways to rid your canine friend of dog mites. Scabies, ear mites, mange and walking dandruff are all types of dog mites. Mange is typically passed from mother to puppies. Both very young and very old dogs with weaker immune defenses are prone to this type of mites. Hair loss and scaly skin are both signs that mange is becoming a problem for your dog. These symptoms can spread to the whole dog. Lotions, shampoos and dips are among the most effective treatments for mange. Thanks Dog Beds

Hi A basa fish is a type of catfish found in southeast Asia, mainly in Vietnam. The fish is valued for its appeal as a food source, especially in mass markets elsewhere in the world, including the United States. The basa fish can be caught wild as adults, but most are raised in captivity after being caught as fry. Most basa fish farmed in Vietnam are done so by local farmers along the Mekong River. They are raised in pens that use the natural flow from the river to remove any impurities that may build up over time. Though most catfish varieties do not like strong currents, the basa fish does not seem to mind them, but actually may prefer them. This technique offers a number of advantages for the farmer and increases the reputation of the fish's flavor, if not its value as well. Thanks Dog Beds

Hi The stiletto snake sounds dangerous, and it can be. Yet if you go to Africa, you probably won’t see one; if you see one, it probably won’t bite you; and if it bites you, you’ll probably get better. The name of the stiletto snake comes from the odd way in which it administers its venom rather than from its ferocity or its power to kill. Most of the time, the stiletto snake is underground. Another common name for it is the burrowing asp, for the stiletto snake digs tunnels, and is especially fond of beginning these under rocks. It travels through the ground to hunt, and therefore sightings of the stiletto snake are rare. The prey of the stiletto snake are creatures that also spend time underground, such as small mammals in their nests or other burrowing reptiles. Thanks Dog Beds

Hi 1) Clean off any rust with a steel wool pad soaked in white vinegar. 2) Clean the cage with a bleach and water solution, then rinse thoroughly with a garden hose. Allow the cage to dry. 3) Lay down a drop cloth or sheets of newspaper either outside or in a well-ventilated indoor area. Place the cage on top to avoid accidentally painting anything else. 4) Shake a can of spray primer well, put the nozzle up to the cage bars and spray a thin layer of primer on the bars. Cover all of the bars--inside, outside, top and bottom. Make sure there is no bare metal. Allow the primer to dry according to the manufacturer's directions. 5) Spray on a thin layer of nontoxic VOC-free spray paint in the same manner. Allow the paint to dry according to the manufacturer's directions. Apply two or three more thin layers of paint. Thanks Dog Beds

Hi Toy Size: The size of the toy should be appropriate for your bird. Small bird toys are not made to withstand the beaks of a larger parrot, who may get hurt by ingesting / swallowing parts of the toy. Fabrics / Happy Hut / Cage Coverings: Fabric items, such as Happy Huts and cage coverings, can have threads come loose and entangle toes and other body parts. I personally have lost a bird due to strangulation. Happy Huts, or any other fabric-covered sleep tents for birds, are generally quite safe. However, some birds will eat the fuzzy coverings. If fluff is disappearing from your Happy Hut, remove it. This material can cause obstructions and death. Some birds chew holes into the material and get trapped. Any fabric items must be inspected regularly. * Replace when the fabric gets frayed or torn. I don't recommend Happy Huts for destructive birds. Ropes, Cords, Strings, Threads: Strangulation and entanglement are common, and yet so avoidable. Keep all cords and ropes short, so that they cannot create a noose around the birds neck or get wrapped around their legs or neck. The thinner the rope, the shorter the rope / string needs to be. Fraying rope and cord are also dangerous because your bird may become caught in them, resulting in injury or in countless cases even death. There have been cases of birds separating the strands on braided ropes, inserting their heads, and strangling themselves as a result. Thanks Dog Beds

Hi Our boarding facility for exotic birds caters to the natural instincts of our feathered friends, as well as, the needs of our human clients to provide a safe, loving, interacting, and stimulating experience for their feathered family members. Most clients tell us that their birds are so much better behaved after their stay here and seem to look forward to their return trip. We constantly hear our clients refer to us as "BIRD CAMP" and can attest to the content natures of the birds that stay here. Our baby parrots (PLAYBABIES) are hand raised from a young age with care taken from early on to form each Playbaby into a loving, well adjusted and social adult bird. We work close with our clients to insure that the bonding and socializing process continues after their baby leaves Feathered Playpen. Thanks Dog Beds

Hi 1) Pick your training treat: To train this command you need to figure out what treat your dog adores above all others. You're basically going to be offering to trade whatever he's holding for the treat, so it has to be a treat that's really worth it. Cheese? Hotdogs? Liver? Don't hold back. 2) Offer a trade. Play with your dog with a toy--don't use one of her favorites--and get her to take it from you. When she has the toy in her mouth, put one of the treats right in front of her mouth and nose. If you've picked the right treat, she will open her mouth to take the treat; and the toy will fall out. Do this a few times till you've both got the hang of it. 3) Associate the command: Now, offer the trade, and the instant the dog opens his mouth, say "Drop it." Timing is important: you must say it precisely as the mouth starts to open. 4) Repeat, repeat, repeat. Give the dog many chances over the course of several days to trade the toy for the treat while you say the command. With repetition, the dog will learn to associate mouth-opening with "Drop it" the way Pavlov's dogs associated bell-ringing with food. Thanks Dog Beds

Hi I know many people who have both animals living together. I used to have a cat and a dog living together. They were friends, but didn't seem to want anyone to notice. If we were around, the cat would stir the dog, who would get angry and chase it (the cat was always faster, by a lot haha). Then you'd look out the window and see them sitting on a chair snuggled up together. You open the door, the run oppisite directions, as if they were trying to hide it :/ weird. But I don't think it would be a great idea to house them together. While there is some cases in which cats are very friendly, cat's are predators. Rabbits are prey animals. Cats enjoy killing prey animals. They don't completly understand how horrible it is to catch an animal, and leave it to die for fun, not for eating. But If you rabbit is downstairs, do you maybe have a door separating the two stories? if not, maybe you could block off a big area, where the cat can't get to, but the rabbit can live? though that would be pretty difficult, and also wouldn't make you house look very pretty at all. Thanks Dog Beds

Hi What’s a great Valentine’s Day present for your pet? Candy is definitely out—chocolate is poisonous to dogs and cats, and hard candy can cause bowel obstructions. Ditto with flowers—many are poisonous to cats and dogs. Instead, why not give your pet a healthy smile? February isn’t just the month celebrating Valentine’s Day, it’s also National Pet Dental Health Month. While the American Dental Association estimates that about 80 percent of us brush our own teeth at least twice a day, most of us completely neglect our pets’ teeth. The fact is, animals have teeth that must be maintained, just like our own teeth. And just like us, dogs and cats can suffer with gingivitis or periodontal disease. “There are many symptoms of dental disease to watch out for, including bad, almost putrid, breath,” explains Dr. James Cook, president of the American Veterinary Medical Association. “Your pet could be in a lot of pain, and you might not realize it. For example, if you see your pet approach a bowl of food then back away, that could be a sign of tooth pain. Your animal can’t tell you he or she is suffering or in pain, so it’s important to get your pet’s teeth checked by your veterinarian.” Thanks Dog Beds

Hi The first, the "Environmental Excellence Award," saw Laird become the first recipient of this newly established, annual award that recognizes the "innovative or exemplary environmental responsibility" taken by the selected company. The selection committee considered the nominated companies' environmental impact, financial impact and social impact as well as various green or environmental initiatives that have been taken. The finalist nominee group included two vendors and three distributors. There is no doubt that our efforts to initiate a full fledged recycling business and implement the objectives of our internal environmental program (now with its Handbook in subsequent editions) were instrumental in both being nominated and selected.
