Good luck with the taming Debbie. You'll need to expect lots of nips at first from a conure but he should get used to you fairly quickly. Btw conures are nothing like brownheads in personality! Be careful the conure doesn't attack Meg as they are known for attacking other birds especially when they want attention!! You never know they may be opposite sexes then it might work reasonably well. Conures are total extroverts and love to play with you and be with you when you are doing jobs in the house. They also love bathing and should have a shallow saucer for that purpose, although given the chance he will probably dive in the bathwater or washing up bowl

Awww! Meg it is so good to know you are well and happy with your new family. I now have a lump in my throat reading your "letter". I'm glad you love your Mum, we all know how loving you little brownheads can be when you have a lovely family/home. I have 3 of your siblings here now! The eldest one looks just like you and she is weaned waiting for a lovely new Mummy or Daddy to come along just like your new Mummy came for you. The two little ones are still being spoon-fed so won't be looking for new homes just yet. Your biological Mum & Dad are now looking in the nestbox yet again!! I blocked off the box from them for the last few weeks so Mum would have a rest from egglaying. Seems as though they love making babies!! Thank your Mummy for posting your letter to me here on the forum & I hope to hear more news from you soon. Best wishes sweetheart

Sorry to hear you've had such rotten luck lately. Seems as though bird theft is rife all over the world nowadays. Here in UK I never let anyone see my aviaries or pet birds because of the rotten thieves there are around. Also all our flights are padlocked and have security lighting etc. Our home is alarmed and has double entry doors back & front.............sad way to live though n owadays but unfortunately that is the reality of this century

A word of warning - don't disturb too greatly otherwise they could land on the eggs and damage them!!! if they attack the camera then they mean they don't need it. Eggs are quite fragile and any heavy landing on them by parent birds could destroiy the forming embryo.............

As others have already said, you really need to decide and I feel you do not have the time & inclination for keeping a bird at the present time. Birds (especially if kept as a sinlg bird) need company, they are flock creatures! I feel it is cruel to keep a bird in the manner you have mentioned as they should ber given as much time & effort as they need to lead a happy life! Stick with your tournaments for now..............

I think you'll find the answer to her noise problem would be to get her a friend! when there are two together they enjoy each other's company and are less likely to shout for you (which is what she is doing!). They do need company as they are flock creatures so when kept on their own will need another friend - either human or bird and their way of asking is to shoutI'm afraid.

Rick - don't mean to pour water on the fire but grass parakeets should never be mixed with other hook bills. Your kakariki could possibly kill them if she is with eggs!! When we kept the neophemas we used to keep only small finches with them, nothing else.

Wow I bet he looked funny doing that! They really do love water don't they. The only downside to swimming in your bath is perhaps the bubbles etc. you add to the water! perhaps give him a good bath/wash with plain water afterwards

I think it's more like feeling left out (even though you know he isn't!). He would probably have preferred a little greencheek partner rather than a hahns We hear of these things happening when a new bird is introduced to a household, hopefully it will pass with time. You could always get Biggs a pyrrhura friend
