This is a female Budgie that came to me this evening. She was separated from the other Budgies as she was getting harrased for being the only hen, but as you can see by the pics she has somthing wrong with her cere and beak. Please can anyone give me any advice or suggestions as to how I can help her in some way now if at all ,before i can get her to a vet!! She is eating ok but is still very depressed. I have kept her separated from the rest of my flock for the time being , just in case!!
i would try putting some baby oil on her cere and beak, that is if she will let you? it looks very dry to me and doing that once every few hours might just cure the problem. im sure karen will have more tips for you, but im afraid thats the only thing i can think of at the moment
this rescue lark is getting a bit of a habbit natalie your as bad as the rest of us lol
awwww Natalie she does look so sorry for herself I've given you a karma bump for your kindness in taking her in.
Do you by any chance have any egg mix? If you do you could try mixing this with a little boiling water for her - the smell might just perk her interest, and it will be soft enough for her to manage if there is any weakness in her beak. The other thing that is good for mixing egg food with is grated carrot - another lovely smelly nibbly I think Sals right about the baby oil - it might just do the trick. It might also pay to try placing her in a slightly humid atmosphere for a while, as this might help her to get a little moisture in her feathers - we all feel better after a wash Nothing too damp and hot though, as that would have completely the opposite effect. I think you are doing exactly the right thing keeping her nice and quiet at the moment - she sounds like she's had enough stress for the time being, and as we all know that's absolutely the worst thing for birds. You'll probably find that she will perk up nicely when she realises that she's not being picked on any more, and she starts to feel safe.
Best of luck with her - let us know how you get on.
PS, she's a stunning colour

Ohh poor little bird, you are a lovely person to look after her and how sad her previous owner didn't pay her more attention and seperate her before she got so bad.
By the look of it she does look like she may have scaley face which is caused by a mite so you are wise to keep her away from the other birds. Have a look at the next post in this section 'Do my youngsters have scaley face, that was my gang.
My two had it when they were little but after a few treatments of Ivermectin they are absolutely fine now and have no scale or scars as a result. Once she has had a rest some food and drink get her to a vet to give her the treatment, it may take more than one trip if it doesn't clear after the first one. Hopefully once she's feeling better she will feel like a bath and a preen and is bound to look loads better, even if the feathers are more damaged after a moult they should be ok. You should see the state of my poor canary Tilley she has recuring feather cysts and normally looks like a cat has had a go at her and spat her out. Bless #rolleyes#
Time and TLC are great healers, keep up the good work.
Ok I have been applying vaseline to the effected areas for 3 days now and there is a marked improvement. Not only has she turned into a he , now all the crusts are off his cere but he has also perked up alot, no longer depressed in the corner. He has eaten all the vitamin laced seeds and looks so much better. Thanks for all the advice , ill keep you posted on his progress, oh by the way we have called him 'poncheeto' my boyfriends suggestion
