:-/Okay is there any spacific reason why all of my budgies are chewing and distroying everything? I'm talking the perches, the newspaper thats under the cage to catch the droppings and such, and the toys will look like they were blown up haha. i give them shreedie toys and such and once they are done with them then they attack the perches and so on. they have oystershells and everything.
If you know of any perches that will keep up with them please let me know cuz buying perches and toys is getting kind of expensive. I dont want them to stop but i kinda want them to slow it down. haha
Any light on this situations would be greatly appreacitated.

Hi Gilbert, Your budgies are just behaving naturally I shouldn't worry too much. Do you have any trees in your garden or nearby? Natural wood would be great to put in their cage and they would absolutely love it, easy for you to replace and free SAFE BRANCHES ASH CITRUS (ANY) DOGWOOD ELM EUCALYPTUS GUAVA MADRONA MAGNOLIA MANZANITA NUT (EXCEPT CHESTNUT & OAK) PAPAYA PINE PRUNE RIBBONWOOD SASSAFRAS THURLOW VINE MAPLE WILLOWS: (GOAT, PUSSY & WEEPING) Hope this helps Gilbert, your birds look great

It is completely natural to chew, and it shows they have energy. I agree with Kiwi on the safe plants. Just make sure they are REALLY clean. Another idea I have is to get tougher toys: cotton rope and natural wood as opposed to pre-sanded pine perches and so on. I use to get a lot of the cheap plastic toys, but they just don't hold up. My budgies really love the toys with the rope like this or a smaller version- Also, for cheap shredders, there is a easy toy to make here: www.budgieplace.com/diy_cloud.htmlHope this helps... I was in a similar situation recently when my budgies decided to chew down the aviary... Still love them though!

Thanks alot. so when i clean the branches do i just use water and a mild soap? Use a non-toxic disinfectant (such as diluted chlorine bleach) then rinse thoroughly and dry well. Your birds are really going to love you for it so it's well worth a little bit of time

A cheaper alternation to buying perches from a pet store, go into your local hardware store and buy a: broom handle, garden rake handle . These you can cut to size, with mine I also buy a very abrasive rasp and go over the whole thing to make it really rough for their feet. It will take them a long time to get through one of those!

That's weird. My budgie, Juniper, never chews on anything. He rejects the chew blocks I give him.

Not every budgie will chew. Females are incessant chewers especially when they are "in season". Not many of my budgies chew though and the ones that do usually go for the calcium or mineral blocks.

All my gang are chewers! I bought one of those multi perch hanging perches last year and they ate it in four days. Their latest and I'll get some pics up when I can keep a connection is chewing through a swing. I have acrylic toys which they love but can't destroy. The also don't seem to be able to chew through the Java perch. All dowel style perches have been knawed. If it keeps them happy and they don't feather pluck hey . They seem to copy each other though as these are boys and girls that are at it. It took 3 months for them to accept the swing in their space, and 4 days to eat it. They are a good way through its replacement now! How safe are the ropes on those sort of toys in your pictures. I thought I read you have to be careful about the type of rope. Trouble is the toy manufacturers don't always list what things are made of. Billie xx

I'm currently trying to encourage him because I think his beak is getting a bit long. I've seem him grab a cage bar or the edge of a perch in his beak and move it back and forward for ten minutes but I don't know if that's his attempt at trimming or not.

My Star never did either, until I started giving him those curly paper things. (In the earlier post) Now he'll chew on just about anything.
