Woo Hoo congrats luvpurplebudgies. Looks like it has not long been hatched too as the down is still wet. I luv peeking in my nest boxes and finding new bubs. Any more eggs to go or is this the only one? You know chances are with dad being a pied and mum looks to be split to pied that you could end up with a pied baby. Cheers Anna

mum looks to be split to pied that you could end up with a pied baby. Cheers Anna How can you tell? Is pied in a tiel the same as pied in a budgie? (mmm, me thinks we could do with some lessons in tiel genetics!)

HEH HEH HEH LIN NO I WAS SAYING THE BABY COULD END UP PIED BUT IT COULD ALSO END UP A GREY. IN THE PHOTO MUM HAS WHAT IS CALLED FLICK MARKINGS ON THE TOP OF HER HEAD AND UNDER HER BEAK INDICATING SHE COULD BE SPLIT FOR PIED. AS PIED IS WHAT IS CALLED A RECESSIVE GENE THEN BOTH PARENTS MUST BE EITHER VISUAL OR CARRYING THE SPLIT FOR PIED TO PRODUCE THE PIED BABY. THIS GENE ALSO WORKS IF ONE IS A VISUAL PIED AND THE OTHER CARRYING THE SPLIT. IT IS THE SAME IN BUDGIES AS IN MOST BIRDS. HOPE THIS HELPS. CHEERS ANNA

Oh that is excellent news Shell. Congrats on being a new grandma LOL. Hope that you may get a pied baby from one of the two and well if not you just never know what splits the dad may be carrying. Cheers Anna
