He was doing so much better had new growth under his wing which almost covered the skin and this morning I noticed he has plcuked the whole area completely bald.
I guess we start from scratch. I know the issue isnt medical weve had that proved so its something else and all I can think of is habit or boredom although he has so much stuff to do in his cage and has Charlie to play with.
More reading up for me or a bald bird forever!

Booms, do you ever see him pluck? Is it possible that Charlie is giving him a hard time when your not around? Or something else is making him unhappy? Is it happening whilst your at work? If you can narrow down when it happens it might help to cure it

Its not Charlie Lin, he plucked before he came to me and Charlie is scared of Barnslee and yes I see him pluck but not where he is bald right now. He eats the feathers too so I see no evidence. I think he must be doing it whilst Im out but Boomhubby is at home during most days so I just dont know. I think I will rearrange the cage again at the weekend. Ive bought loads of chewy toys and stuff but he wont touch them he only likes to chew on millet.

If he's eating his feathers could there be something lacking in his diet that his body is craving?

I thought that too Julie but I had him tested for deficiencies and nothing showed up but I do give them some ACE High every once in a while plus he has started to eat veggies now too.
This little boy is a mystery to me.

Did you have him tested for trace elements too Booms? I don't even know if they can test for them. But a lack of these can cause major problems. I've posted some links for you as well, somewhere, can't think where now

You may have already seen this Booms:- www.petparrot.com/ParrotCarePlucking.htmI thought this bit quite interesting?:- An improper diet that is deficient in, or has an excess, of nutrients may also be a cause for plucking or chewing. For example, a diet that does not have enough protein may cause a parrot to start eating his own feathers to supplement his diet. Sometime a diet too low in fat will cause plucking in some greys. Each animal is an individual and will metabolize nutrients differently. So what works for one, may not work for another. If you parrot is plucking, it would be wise to have a complete physical done by an avian veterinarian to try to rule out a deficiency as the cause. The deficiency of some nutrients can be determined by blood tests.

Hi Barnslee, if nothing has showed up in his tests medically speaking, are you providing a liquid calcium and d supplement to his water twice a week? Lack of proper calcium and d absorption can often result in a bird feather plucking. also a lack of thiamine will do this too. There are also others reasons like stress, boredom etc. Is he chewing just under his wings and if so has he been tested for Giardia as this will often led to birds plucking their feathers just under their wings and on the back. I do have a recipe for feather plucking, haven't tried it myself yet but could be worth a try. Cheers Anna

Self Plucking under the wings is a very sure sign of Giardia It causes a lot of heat and irritation I would seek another opinion ;)cheers Frank

Barnslee has been tested for Giardia twice and both times came back negative. He was also tested for deficiencies nothing showed up.
He doesnt get a calcium supplement other than cuttlefish but they get ACE High vitamin supplement twice a week.
Anna I would be surely grateful of that recipe you have for plucking.
He seems to be doing it worse than before and I have no idea why.
