I just set up three pairs in my aviary. The hens are an olive, an albino, and a reg. green. The cocks are a dom. sky blue pied, a sky blue greywing, and a laurel. The pied has the reg. green, the laurel likes the olive, and hopefully the greywing will accept the albino. I"ll let you know what happens as it happens, but things haven't been going to well the last couple seasons, so my fingers are crossed. If I have time I'll post some pics when stuff starts happening. Wish me luck!

Thanks everybody! So far nothing has happened... I know I've posted this pic before, but anyway... the bird on the left is the laurel, Dude. The other, Sam, is also breeding. Laurel is just another name for a dark green.

The birds had a rather crazy couple days... First off, the greywing and albino were not interested in each other, and then started fighting with the other birds. I had to take them out of the breeding area. Secondly, I just got in from de-egg-binding Anna. (reg. green) This was the first time I have had to do it, so I was pretty worried, but she laid two reg. sized, soft shell eggs within a minute and seems to be doing fine. I'm keeping an eye on her now. I always have cuttlebone available for the birds, but I guess she hasn't been taking her share. I am feeding them special seed and lots of greens, too. Anyone have any suggestions on keeping this from happening again? I'm doing everything I'm supposed to be doing, but I keep on having one thing after another happen!

I know that Laurel is dark green, Lady. I saw several pictures that were supposedly dark greens that looked like Dude, but apparently they were inaccurate. He does have the blue underside. I've always wondered why but wasn't smart enough to figure it out. Sorry about that. I'm having an "I don't know anything" day. Anna seems to have recovered, but she got in bad fight with the other hen. It is just one thing after another. I feel totally helpless. I can't take one of the hens out of the breeding cage, because at this point in the breeding cycle it would put her at high risk for egg binding. On top of that, I don't really have room for her in the other cage. I have 4 nest boxes for two pairs, they have numerous food and water containers, and a HUGE area, and they are still fighting, getting egg bound, etc! Can anyone give me some suggestions? Please? I'm doing my best, but it obviously isn't enough...

If you can't seperate them into breeding cages, try faceing the nest boxes hole away from each other and put food close by each nest..
Good luck.

Finally, despite the crazy start, something is going right. The hens seem to have calmed down, and have chosen nestboxes. Anna laid an egg today and everything seems to be in order. More to come, hopefully. Sorry about the panic attack yesterday, I was having a really bad day. Thanks for your suggestions, Lady.

Good news and bad news. The good news is that both hens are settled down and had two eggs each as of yesterday. The bad news is that I can't take pics right now. My family is currently taking care of the birds for me, ever since thursday I've been laid out flat with a high fever. I got some antibiotics from the doctor, and I'm feeling better today, (think the advil's working... ;D) but not well enough to be walking around and working outside. When I'm feeling better, I'll get some new pics of the pairs, promise! (In the meantime, I'm finding out just how hard it is to trust someone else with your birds, especially with all the craziness that has been going on )
