hi every one, i was wondering if anyone could answer my question.... my tiels have been mating on and off for a while, but Jesse has not laid any eggs, i have been told that they wont lay if there is no nest box, is this generally true? i am sure i read somewhere that someone's tiel had laid eggs even though there was no nest box. if this is the case, what happens to the female once they have mated? can she stop the production of eggs herself?

Generally the female will not produce eggs without a nestbox being present, this isnt always the case as occassionally the REALLY determined pair will make do without one but 90% of the time it works. No harm will come to the birds from mating without anything happening, the worste that will happen is they will get LOTS of practise and embarrass you when guests visit lol

i know all about being embarassed! they started mating and then my 7 year old son walked in and asked me what they were doing?!!! i said they were just playing and to leave them alone, i then walked out of the room for a minute, came back in and found my son with his hand in the cage trying to get Jake off Jesse and telling him off for jumping onto Jesse's back!! it was so funny!
