I have 3 gouldians 2 females and one male. Here is a picture of the male and one of the females. I did have 2 males but they picked on him. When I realized what was happening he was really thin. I took him away from the other 3 and after 3 weeks he seemed fine so I put one female with him. I dont' know if he was still under the weather or got sick again but he died shortly after that. a couple of days ago I had to take the female away from the other 2. she was starting to miss feathers and I didn't want the same thing to happen to her as did my male. I never would have guessed they were that aggressive with eachother.

The Gouldian pics are nice jodi. Sorry to hear you have lost the male. gouldian normally get on fine with each other I am leaning to wards that the male may have been sick. I have around 10 pairs all in one aviary and they all get on fine. With the male being thin or light I would say he may have had worms. Also gouldinas need to settle in to a new home as well my advise for you would be if you get a new gouldian hold him or her in a holding cage for about two weeks. Place the new bird on worm Treatment asap also some Electolights will help the stress the new bird is under. Gouldian Finches die easily from stress. I hope this helps you Jodi

thank you for your kind comments.
Fred I never even though of worms. What and how much do you give a bird to get rid of worms? I have Ivomec for my Rabbits would that work for a bird?
I had purchased the females and then 2 weeks later the males. the males were in a cage seperate from the females for a week before I put them together. I've had them since September and only recently lost the male. That makes me think that he didn't come to me sick that something happened here.

Jodi Number 1 Ivomec is used for Air sack mites with Gouldians I can explain Ivomec to you if you wish.
Be careful with Ivomec as to much will kill the birds quickly.
As for worms I use ( hehe ) for the birds sorry I use Aristo Pet Bird Wormer.
The dose Rate is on the bottle having said that I use half of the recommended dose for Finches.
Its around 1 mil to 15 mil of drinking water.
I put finches on this for 24 hours then one day of clean water then I treat them again.
So its one day of Treatment One day of clean water One day of Treatment I worm my birds each change of Season.
I hope this helps
