I couldn't believe how big they are!!
I found them on the bottom of the cage this afternoon when I came home. I don't think they are any good as I don't know how long they were there for.
I shoved them under a breeding budgie and she's sitting on them as if they are hers!!!

I don't think anything will happen as they don't have a nest box & they were laid on the floor. I chucked them under a budgie hen as she seems to love sitting on eggs. Okay, now here is the question: should I give her a nest box now or wait until March which was my original plan?

its up to you Karen, once the female starts to lay she can (not necessarily will) just keep going with or without a nest box. You might run out of budgies to sit on them if thats the case lol. if the climate is still too hot in your opinion then leave it till march, but on the up side at least you know you have an established pair

Very true! The poor pudgie is already sitting on 4 Kakariki eggs as well as her own & 3 babies! I don't really want the eggs to hatch as the poor girl would get no rest! I just don't want to throw out the eggs just in the off chance they are fertle. On the Kakariki forum it was suggested to me to put a box in just not in the sun or too high to the roof. I put in 3 boxes yesterday (other pair of budgies would get jealous!) and within 5 minutes she was in them checking them out. The budgie got annoyed with her and pulled her tail. Everytime I go there or make a noise she makes a "scared baby magpie type cry" from inside the box, what's with that?

its her warning you off - kiki makes the same noise, you'll get used to it she'll be doing it a lot lol
once she lays and the eggs have hatched she will ease off the screaching and let you near her (and the chicks) without shouting at you quite so readily.

Oh good! I was worried she was scared! She won't hurt the budgie hen will she? The budgies' box is on the opposite side of the cage in the budgies' usual positon.

no she shouldnt do as long as the budgie doesnt go near her box, now she has chosen a next box she should stick with that one. but be warned, she can go to another nest box and start layng again when the chicks reach anything from 4 weeks onwards and leave dad to feed the first clutch so just be sure to have more than one extra empty one for her to use nearer the time or she may disregard the chicks she has to start again in the same box.

Good grief! The picky cow! Would she actually kill her own chicks or just throw them out?
