Maybe sal or someone can help me out i know im thick!! anyway i have been looking for a playmate for my freddy and been offered one its handtame which is what i wanted but they dont know if cock or hen!! now i dont want to pick it up and introduce to freds if a cock (dont want my freddy hurt!) so my stupid question is how do you tell?!!!!! im going to pick the bird up tomorrow and luckily has its own cage until i know what it is etc!! please let me know maybe i could put a pic up and someone clever will know! thanks kel

Hey Kel! That is NOT a silly question! It is a very reasonable question. Kakariki males have a slightly heavier thickerset body. Their beak is broad. Females have a more slender beak. The best thing is if you can compare Freddy to the new bird to see if their beaks are comparable. A photo would be best - also put one up of Freddy in the same post.

there are a couple of other tricks to tell too the females have a flat spot on the top of the head and the males have a rounded head, also, the males are VERY vocal and the females arent and lastly, a female is a destroyer lol and will chew absolutely everything whereas the males will pretty much only nibble on food and the odd tasty curtain #norty#
